This doesn't make sense. Kotkaniemi is better prospect than Söderström and Goligoski is actually having a great year. Not to mention that MTL don't even need Söderström

I would rather Soderstrom than Kotka. Interesting swap though.

How low are people on Kotka... Or how high have people grown on Soderstrom... While the Hall trades were going on, it was always Soderstrom+2020 first+... Now he's worth more than Kotka...? (Also buying out Goli is ABSOLUTELY 110% the RIGHT move)

I shouldn’t have added the 2nd rd pick. I still think kotkaniemi will be very good, I’m just looking to get feedback. I thought soderstrom had a great WJC.

Yeah soderstrom + a 1st for hall, byram + a 1st for hall. Good times lol

More about team fit with ARI.

Once Goligoski, Demers and Hjalmarsson are up, there's nothing really coming in on that right side. Lybushkin is alright, but ideally a 3rd pair guy. Soderstrom is the guy who will define ARI on the right side. ALthough ARI has no defined #1 center, they still have three or four guys that can occupy the three top 9 center spots. I don't think Kotkaniemi will be a #1 center in his timeline, so adding him doesn't really upgrade much for ARI immediately.

Also, I've noticed you are very low on Goligoski. Offensively he did pretty good this year. I don't see him as buyout worthy at all and still a very reliable top 4 defenseman. He's getting older and is a tad overpaid, but at one year left he is doing more for the team than not.

Wow everyone is so down on kk seriously he had a bad year with MTL but playing 7 or 8 min with Julien is really bad for devellopment. Not to mention his 13 points in 13 games with Laval with players like Laurent Dauphin guys kk worth more than that and by far.

Their RD or C depth charts haven't changed since the Hall trade tho lol (Goli was ehh offensively, better than last year ig... And just absolutely god awful at everything in his own end, not just normal defensive things like in front of the net and such, but on the rush, preventing breakouts or zone entries, you name it (defensively) he was a train wreck at it last year

Arizona has 4 UFA defense in a year 3 of which are RD. They also have Hayton coming up who should be a top 6 center as well as Dvorak and Schmaltz next year. This is a really nearsighted trade that will result in a worse team

Hall trade doesn't impact much with this discussion, at least with my argument.

My point is, outside of Soderstrom, after this year the three guys currently occupying the right side on ARI are UFAs, and could all be gone. ARI isn't extremely strong in their remainder of prospect depth on that position. Their forwards and centers are locked up much longer, and thus Soderstrom in his position means more to Arizona than another center would.

I'm not arguing that, I totally agree, my original point was sort of calling out all the people who said it'd take a first+Soderstrom+for Hall, making Soderstrom seen almost like a throw in sort of... Yet now he has this much value

Its not a bad Idea if you consider Suzuki, Domi and Danault as your top 3 centers long term. In an ideal world tho, Domi returns to the wings while KK develops like he should. That way the top 6 is much stronger.

Also, KK had a very below expectations year but we still got to see what he was capable of in his rookie year and a couple of games this year + a really great appearance in Laval. He is far from a bust and just need time to develop his strenght on skate and with his stick and maybe some reading reflexes. You just dont trade a 19 year old 3rd overall pick, especially for a maybe player. Value of the trade is probably close and Soderstrom might be very good but its just not worth giving up on KK this soon in his career. The only way KK is going elsewhere is in a package for a talented established player.
