20 players = recipe for disaster!
Leafs had a major injury bug this year and resembled a military M*A*S*H unit. That few roster players spells a lot of L-O-S-E-S to me w/ regulars on IR from too much playing time (back to backs etc) and 'farm kids' plugging holes for the wounded.

Pesce starts with Nylander (and ends there) or a 2020 first, which Toronto doesn't have, plus; neither Kerfoot nor Dermott are upgrades on existing Hurricane players at forward or defense, and Carolina doesn't need Bracco because they have Dominik Bokk.

Even assuming you were to pry Pesce from Carolina, @McGruff is right: the signing of Gudas puts you too dangerously close to the cap ceiling with inadequate numbers. Muzzin-Holl is an acceptable second pairing, and now you have plenty of space for three additional players.

Thanks for the feedback.

I think a straight up deal of Johnsson for Puljujarvi is fair and could benefit both clubs whereby Toronto gets cap relief and a player with potential, Edmonton gets a more established 2nd/3rd liner on a decent contract. Petan's inclusion is simply to give him another shot somewhere else.

I'm happy to hear that the swap for Pesce is deemed to rich.

While I agree that under most circumstances a 20 player roster is not smart nor feasible. But it is certainly doable in Toronto because both the Leafs and Marlies are located in the same city, making call ups for injury relief easy to facilitate. The money MLSE puts into sports science allows them to be very proactive. That said, the point is well taken.

Too much...not enough? I guess that's why we have opinions, lol.

Carolina never makes that trade but Toronto shouldnt offer it. Toronto's #1 issues is their RD but their #2 issue is depth. They have so much money locked up up front that most of their depth players have to be on league min contracts meaning they are likely mediocre at best and are below WAR and GAR. Trading 2 solid depth players and a good prospect in Liljegren is really poor asset management

Pesce isn't going anywhere.
