Initial Creation Date: Apr. 7, 2020
Published: Apr. 7, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Toronto signed a nice player today (Alexander Barabanov) two-way forward who is 25 and owns an NHLE of 30.7. I expect he’ll see plenty of playing time in the top nine for the Maple Leafs next season.

That’s exactly the kind of role we might see for Anton Slepyshev, who is also 25 and has an NHLE of 54.9 after a fine 2019-20 season.

No CBO this time, just to make it interesting.

I haven’t seen or read about Slepyshev that much. How good is he doing? And do you really think he is ready for the NHL again?

Pick 33 and another 2nd for a guy that quit the NHL and a meh dman.

Greiss has a great year and takes 1/2 of what he made this year?? Probably not...

Mathematically challenged? 2.5 is not half of 3.3. I figure not many teams will be giving 2 years to a 34 year old backup, so the extra year is worth something in AAV. Contracts will be tight if the cap is flat and there is no CBO, I don't think this is unreasonable.

Knowledgeable posters think it's fair. This isn't the first time I've posted this trade.

His NHLe this year was 55, so that's pretty darn good.

Yeah, I was surprised. I would have liked to bring Ennis back though.

I want Gagner back, as he can play center too and he loves Edmonton. but I know in my brain its not for the best. I think Ennis brings more than Neal at this point.

I agree. He'd be much cheaper, too. I suppose a buyout is still an option, I just hate to see so much dead money on the books for so long. Holland needs every spare dollar to build his dynasty.

Well its 2 million per year I think. I havnt looked in a while. But if that Cbo happens, than he can kick rocks as you know his 5 on 5 play is brutal

Questions/observations:
-Bozak would be sweet.
-Do you see Berglund as an NHL roster player right now?
-What did you think of Slepyshev when he played with the Oilers before? I always loved his hard shot, but I never thought he equaled the sum of his parts. I hope that he can be like Dadonov and be better the second time around.

I think its certainly possible, maybe even likely. He's played in a very good pro league for 4 years now, I think he'll be like Marino / Bear and be able to step right in. And I think Klefbom is the right partner for him... I set up the pairings showing Jones-Larsson as the 3rd pair, but we've already seen them playing 2nd pair together this year (when Klefbom was out) and they did very well. As I see it, the Oilers would have three "2nd"pairings. Nurse-Bear were nearly able to saw off against the toughest comp this year, if Tippett was able to spread their workload to the other pairings equally I think all three would have positive possession and goal metrics.

And if Berglund isn't ready to make the jump, Bouchard is. I just wanted to switch things up a little.

I've always liked him and remember thinking that McLellen didn't give him much of a chance to settle in with a skill center. For some odd reason, Tmac preferred Caggiula. His On-Ice GF/60 was pretty decent with those men, despite the lack of opportunity:

with McDavid: 4.74 GF/60 | 56.25 GF% | 113:52 TOI
with Draisaitl: 2.46 GF/60 | 50.00 GF% | 170:46 TOI
with Nugent-Hopkins: 3.60 GF/60 | 70.00 GF% | 116:34 TOI

He spent the bulk of his time playing wing for Caggiula, Letestu and Strome, with much worse results.

I think he's grown as a player and would love to see him back in Oilers silks. Reportedly Holland has offered him a 1 year contract in the $1.0 - 1.4M range. We'll see...

Yeah position matters too. In this deep draft they can possibly get a really good prospect in the second round at number 33 so they most likely wont give up that one

Still not worth the return. Benning is a fringe 5th/6th D and pool party might not even come back to the NHL

Actually, if you were Ken Holland, would you sign Dadonov? He's a bit older, but I wonder how he would do with McDavid?

I know you hate Puljujarvi, but others see potential in him. Ottawa will be getting a really good prospect at #33 - he's 21 and in NHL ready today. Notice how no Ottawa fans are balking at this trade, only people who hate Puljujarvi?

That would be interesting for sure. I'm not sure how they make room for him (3 x $6M?), but I'd love to see Dadonov in Edmonton.

I don’t hate him, I just don’t like him going all the way to Europe just because he suddenly didn’t want to play in Edmonton. He should have stayed and raise his trade value so then both he and the team can get what they want

Sure, maybe that would have been best. But the fact that he didn't doesn't make him valueless. He's still worth a late 1st round pick, I'm trading him for less here because I'm getting a slight upgrade on the Benning pick, who is worth a late 2nd in this draft.
