Panarin isn't going anywhere

Created by: bhawks30

Description
The Hawks are not going to "Saad" Panarin. They had a guy named Bickell that made signing Saad nearly impossible. Hence the reason they traded Sharp and Johns for next to nothing, and let Oduya walk. They will have the space to keep him, even if Kruger or Anisimov are not traded, then you just don't sign Sharp like I did here. Baun, Kero, or McNeill could fill the bottom 6 role in that scenario.

Gus is NHL ready and too skilled to be a 7th defenseman, he will be traded at the deadline this year or possibly in the 2017 offseason, as seen here. With Pokka and Forsling both near NHL ready, we must be pro-active with moving Gus.

TVR wasn't great as a 4th defenseman but would be a great 3rd pairing D-man in Vegas. I think he is chosen over Gus in expansion because of experience. Even if we kept Krug and exposed him in expansion, I doubt McPhee would take him for 3 million. TVR has good value and won't cost much once his contract is up.

Again, cap may not be this high, which means Sharp is never signed and one of Krug/Anismov are traded anyway. However, if it is this high, the Hawks will have great options next summer.

Although it was agreed upon as apart of the intial bridge deal for Kruger, his 3 million dollar salary is just not warranted with the Hawks constant cap constraints. Moose will take over his role as a bottom 6 checking center at a much lower cost.

Yup. Exactly. Even if he got more money, you can just not sign Sharp if needed. The only thing stopping Chicago from being able to resign Panarin if he wants 7M is Kruger who is a player many teams would want so trading him for no salary back would be easy.

Sharp will probably not happen unless it's around $1.75 - $2M which I'm not sure he'd do. There will certainly be bonuses. Campbell get's $750k for playing 10 games...that'll be 99.999% Artemi will certainly be in the top six so his minimum bonus is approx. $850k. So we're @ $1.6M which is almost a guarantee. If the Hawks play him with Kane again it's possible that goes up to $3.375M. I hope the Hawks can put out that D. I'd be very happy.

Agreed, the Sharp signing was just to see if it was possible for him to finish his career here (wishful thinking). Much more realistic that the money used for his hypothetical salary covers the likely bonuses earned in this upcoming season. Even if Campbell only plays another two years, Forsling will be waiting in the wings, looking like a solid group of D-men for years to come.

True, I like the roster. Think you may get more from Calgary? They're last in PK which is the single best thing Kruger is known for and last in defense so Gus would be a nice addition.

I think you certainly could. My only thought was that they still have to pay Gaudreau and Monahan, not sure if they could take on an additional 3 mill for a PK'er. I think Gus will bring great value wherever he goes

I appreciate you hearing my suggestion about JVR and Vegas. But likelihood of him getting the Saad treatment is extremely high....And your assesment for Panarin is waayyyy too low. He's going to push 8 mil (due to comparsion with Tarasenko contract) if he produces at the same or higher rate. Years of bad contracts to playoff performers is hurting this team.

As I've had to continually tell people in these armchair GM situations, with that many rookie forwards on the roster, this team will get its ass kicked up and down the ice. You will, at absolute best, see one rookie stay up past the first 10-15 games, and another or two may come up with injuries, but don't believe the BS hype that Q is in the "youth movement." Never going to happen.

Panarin is gone. Only way they keep Panarin is if they trade either Kane or Toews. Having 11 mil of a 73 mil cap wrapped up in two players will not yield a cup. If it were me trade Kane, collect on the tons of prospects and cap space.

Anyone that thinks Panarin will get a contract for 7 million at this point in his SINGLE season NHL career is nuts. He played with the best player in the league in that one season and hasn't proven he can produce without him. He's a RFA and an arbitrator won't give him more than 7 million unless he does better than he did last season without the Ted Lindsey, Hart, and Art Ross winning player boosting him. Panarin will likely still be a productive player without Kane, as they complimented each other, but he isn't Tarasanko. Get real people.

Molte bene! Panarin is either signing for approx 5.5m - 6.5m depending on the term, or he's being traded.

Is this in reference to the 17-18 season? I know most people want Breadman for two full seasons but the Hawks may also have to pay overages for a third year when the kid reaches his bonuses again. Can't really trade him now tho with Vesey signing with NYR. (That was another tough one). Hope for the best, I guess!
