The Yzerplan and purge

Created by: MCfubar
Team: 2020-21 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 8, 2020
Published: Apr. 8, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The Yzerplan continues methodically revamping the roster, although the moves will not be enough to satisfy the fan base. Prospects are kept down in GR for more seasoning and the purge of the veteran roster can't happen quickly. Yzerman purges prospects he doesn't envision having a future with the organization.

Expect a few spots to be opened at the trade deadline, but the real change comes for the 2021-22 season.

DET
  1. Murray, Matt [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Yzerman addresses the problem in goal with a potential long term solution while goalies in the pipeline are allowed develop.
PIT
  1. Cholowski, Dennis
  2. 2021 3rd round pick (DET)
Additional Details:
Pittsburgh can't resign Murray and Jerry, and they need to free up cap space. Getting a cost controlled former 1st round pick/offensive defenseman to take the place of the declining Jack Johnson and a future 3rd round pick seems like a fair return in a poor market for goalies.

DET
  1. 2022 4th round pick (BUF)

Buffalo addresses the need for a playmaking wing at a minimum future cost

You could keep Abdelkader and just buy someone out for another team and still have tons of space lol

I wasn't very excited about Gagner but after seeing him play in Detroit I was pleasantly surprised. I do think $3.25M is a bit much but I've seen a bunch posts on here that have him signing as a free agent.

I know Gagner personally and I can see he is a fantastic person. He is coming closer to the end of his career but his hockey smarts are still amazing.

The last Murray coming to Detroit trade I saw has Detroit giving Pittsburgh their 2020 1st for Murray. Obviously that will never happen and I'm pretty sure he wasn't serious. I don't know what he is worth but since but since winning the cup Murray ranks 31st in GAA and 32nd in SV%.
