I agree, but he also has a year extra of growth. They are pretty equivalent.

Considering he was ready a year earlier, they're the same age, hell miro is half a year younger

yeah. i think makar probably would have been ready too at that time, but it is evident that Heisk benefitted from having the first year in the NHL.

It’s pretty close I think, the difference in public opinion is probably due to Makar playing on a team that scores a ton more which boosts is point totals. You really can’t go wrong with either.

I agree that Heiskanen is better than Klingberg but I would still take Makar over Heiskanen

Makar is a more dynamic offensive player who benefits from more offensive zone starts while Heiskanen is used in a more 2 way role. Personally I think Makar is better but im very biased

They are both very very good

I agree you can’t go wrong, but Makar is part of the reason Colorado scores so much more. Right now Heiskanen is better defensively and Makar is better offensively. In truth I expect both of them to win the Norris in the future and along with Dahlin, Hughes, and Chabot you’re talking about the next wave of elite defenseman in the NHL.

I honestly think Mcavoy wins it next year if Krug leaves. Give him the PP minutes so he can sandbag his stats and people will notice the elite even strength play as well.

But Makar had already committed to UMass (Amherst) and honoring that commitment is the right thing to do. Who do I think is better I think its too close to call.

Heiskanen had a far, far greater positive impact on Dallas this year than Makar had on Colorado. Makar's 5v5 GF% rel was +0.49 whereas Heiskanen's was +9.35.

I'll do ya one better, Heiskanen is clearly superior to Makar. Heiskanen plays the toughest minutes against top players, in all situations. When Makar isn't getting so many sheltered minutes against 3rd/4th lines, then we can talk about him being as good as or better than top shelf D-men.

I also think Makar bloomed a bit quicker and is on a top tier winning team that scores a lot in bunches. In a couple year Heiskanen will be truly elite and a perennial Norris finalist, he is that good. Makar is still a top notch dman but Miro just projects to be a seriously dynamic stud for the next decade.

This is perfectly said. People see Makar as the superior player cause he’s flashier and scores more points. No doubt in my mind that Heiskanen is better. But honestly the best young dman in the league is Chabot. I have Heiskanen right behind him

Yes, wayyyyyy better than Klingberg, hell, if you watch the Stars play, Lindell is better than Klingberg too. Klingberg is good offensively, but that is it. On Makar, they are both elite in different ways. I think Miro gets the tougher minutes and matchups. Hard to tell cause all D-men develop at different rates. Either way, these guys are both elite.
