making a good team with 40M for for 4 players

Created by: leafs101
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 12, 2020
Published: Apr. 12, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
@ek_65 had the fabbro idea and I think it could work if NSH is up for it (tweaked it slightly so that NSH retains more but gives a 4th and 5th rather than a 2nd). Clifford probably deserves more money but it's made up for in contract length. Guys in LTIR are guys who might get called up

nah I'm trying to prove that it can be done without moving him. No need to deal him unless moved for a player of equal or better calibre that is too good to resist in my opinion

He costs way more. In this case they would have fabbro and liljegren who will be in the top 4 soon. Sure hes better but the opportunity cost isnt worth it

liljegren is no lock to be a top 4 guy, and certainly not next year. If they want to compete next year, liljegren and/or holl can't be in the top 4. We'd be lucky to have liljegren develop to be as good as cernak

Not next year but it's very possible that he could be the year after. They wouldn't need him in the top 4 if they have holl and Fabbro in the top 4 anyways

what I'm trying to tell you is that holl is not a good enough player to have as a top 4 defender for us to be able to make it out of our division against Tampa/boston. Excellent 3rd pairing guy, but not top 4, and we can't afford a $2M 3rd pairing guy

I don't think he'll be any better than 4C/3W. The return would be at best a 3rd but I wouldn't care if he went for less just because we don't need him but EDM might be able to use a young fast winger

Holl's most common partner was Muzzin this season and it wasnt close. They played against top competition while on the ice together and had a 52.92% corsi and 56.26% xG. Holl had a higher GAR and xGAR with supposed "top pairing, Norris defenseman" seth jones.

Cernak played the most with Ryan Mcdonagh and only had a 50% corsi and 52.46% xG. Did I mention that cernak played on TB where all stats go through the roof and hes playing with a far better partner then holl against slightly weaker competition.

Holl is a very good top 4 defenseman when he plays with muzzin. Muzzin-Zaitsev almost completely shut down the bruins top line at 5v5 in the playoffs. If they would have kept that pair together on the PK they probably would have kept up the success. Holl is a huge step on Zaitsev in every area as we know. Keeping them together absolutely gives them a chance to beat Tampa and Boston

stats don't tell the full story. Holl has literally played 1 season at 27 years old. The fact that you used stats to even compare him to jones proves that you can't rely on stats. zaitsev was very good in his first season as a leaf, who's to say holl doesn't fall off like him? you just don't know, but I'm betting on cernak over holl- also a younger guy that will be in our top 4 for years to come. No brainer for me to do that, especially when you're only giving up a 2nd round pick

Nashville trade is terrible for Nashville. retaining 3 million dollars in a time where we don't know when the cap will go up again is already a bad start plus adding Kerf, mango, and dermott, they'll never fit under the cap

Zaitsev wasnt very good in his first season. He put up a bunch of secondary assists on the powerplay but that's about it. Holl has been playing the exact same way for quite a few seasons. Zaitsev's success depended on powerplay time. The moment that dissapeared he had nothing. That wont happen with holl because holl is good at lots of things, he doesnt just rely on one thing. The only thing that would make holl fall off a cliff would be an injury or putting him in a situation where theres no chance anyone could succeed. Cernak can be a top 4 but hes going to cost a lot and they dont need him. Fabbro will be a top pairing defenseman with rielly for a long time. They have sandin who may be ready for a top 4 spot next season but the season after is more realistic, same with liljegren and holl.

To recap next season they would have Rielly, fabbro, muzzin and holl in the top 4. The season after they will have Rielly, Muzzin, Fabbro, Holl, Sandin and liljegren who will all be able to play in the top 4. That doenst include dermott who should be able to step up into a 4th defenseman spot. Cernak would be good but at his cap hit it wouldn't be worth it

holl hasn't even been playing for "quite a few seasons" man. he has yet to play a full nhl season actually. Dermott was traded in this for fabbro. sandin plays the left side

My bad about dermott. Holl has been great in the AHL under Keefe for a while now. He hasn't changed anything about the way hes played. The only thing that hes changed is the quality of linemates and quality of competition.

if an Ahl player changes nothing about his game and everybody around him gets better, he can't be much better than a high end Ahl player- or a bottom pairing nhl player

All that just to get Fabbro and Cernak (who are good players).....But to depend Turris, Spezza, Clifford and Barabanov in your top 12....that kinda sucks. Why trade Holl for Hunt?

I don't think the Nashville trade works for them.....Johnsson has no value...he gets you the picks from Nashville....Kerfoot and Turris? no way Nashville keeps 3mil....equals a wash really they are no further ahead...so basically your saying Dermott is worth Fabro….which he is not...Fabro wasy better player

hunt is cheaper. all of those players are very capable bottom 6 forwards. And fabbro and cernak are very good, and still pretty young. Very capable right handed top 4 defenders

Saw this elsewhere. Johnsson does have some value. Kerfoot for turris isn't a wash. Dermott =/= fabbro I know. I think the leafs would have to add, which I'd be willing to do

Johnsson's value is the picks.....that's it.....and again I disagree...Turris /Kerfoot is a wash only ur asking them to pick up the extra tab......and definitely are adding as Fabro has way more value than Dermott.....we will just have to agree to disagree

Or maybe he was always a good nhler but a coach that will remain nameless refused to play him.
