Trade with Florida

Initial Creation Date: Apr. 12, 2020

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Wanted to try something different so just giving this a wild shot in the dark as to value. Let's assume Florida is ready to break up their core and revert back to the cheap crappy organization they've been for a long time. They get out of the long Matheson contract, move Barkov (his NMC kicks in 7/1, I believe) who they probably won't be able to afford in 2 years anyway (not for cap reasons but for business reasons), and get two young, cost-controlled pieces with upside, and two firsts and an additional stand-in defenseman they can flip for something at the deadline if he's healthy. Sabres get the 2C they desperately need.

Trade deadline moves: Vesey (or whatever UFA LW you can overpay for one year), Montour, Johansson

Expansion Draft Protection List becomes:
Eichel
Barkov
Skinner
Reinhart
Olofsson
Kahun
Room to add 1

Dahlin
Jokiharju
Room for 1 more or maybe Pilut (let Matheson or Miller go - more $ for the above two)

Goalie:
UPK if he has to be protected otherwise Ullmark obviously

This all gets easier if there is a CBO to get rid of Okposo's cap hit.

If we're being honest here. Thompson and Mittelstadt don't have a ton of value around the league...

The package would most likely have to include at least 3 of your 2020 1st, 2021 1st, Jokiharju, Olofsson, Cozens, or Reinhart.

Not even close Barkov is an elite 70 to 90 point Centerman Mittelstadt in his best year will only be half as good as Barkov in his worst year. McCabe meh Thompson decent but these pieces are nowhere close to getting you Barkov. A player of Barkov's talent easily returns Dahlin and that's being truly honest. Barkov easily returns what Jack Eichel would return both are elite Centers in this league and are very expensive to acquire.

Would you accept that package for Eichel? No, then neither will Florida

First of all Barkov would easily be the first line center on the team as he’s better than Eichel but Barkov isn’t getting traded period especially for a garbage package like this.

Ok, fair. I would do any of those 3 pieces together except Jokiharju. Preferably 2 1sts and any one of the 3 forwards.

No way would he get Dahlin. 1D is way more valuable than 1C. But yeah, probably not nearly enough. I fell into the same trap of moving only guys I want out. Change Mittelstadt with Cozens.

2 1sts + Cozens I think gets it done since it cuts cap for Florida and that's one of their stated goals.
