Carolina is the last team in the NHL that needs Trouba, let alone at that price

Yeah, Reinhart isn't being traded any time soon. And if he is it is for a drastically larger package than that.

The other trades are a bit out there, but value wise are pretty alright. CAR is probably on D though - maybe something that happens if Hamilton won't resign

It honestly kinda makes sense. Carolina front office likes to lock up their dmen (4 of their 6 dmen are signed for at least 3 more years) and that number goes up if they extend Dougie).

This move is cap neutral. Nino and Trouba have put up about the same amount of points this year, and Trouba has been a stalwart for the Rangers playing against the top line every night. Martinook has been a healthy scratch often this season. While Bokk has been outscored in the SHL by fellow Canes prospect Jesper Sellgren....a defenseman.

This move ends up being a top pair D for a middle 6 winger, a 4th liner and a B+ prospect....with even cap.

I think most teams take that. Especially a smart team like Carolina.

Tough to say what's going to happen in Buffalo. Players are unhappy, and I'm not sure Reinhart is going to be willing to sign long term with them.

As for the value, I think it's spot on.

Reinhart has literally Never played without an elite linemate. It was ROR then it was Eichel. And he's been about a mid 50ish point player with either of them.

If you need a good indication of Eichel's value....just ask Jeff Skinner. So while Ryan Strome is a 70 point player with Panarin and Jesper Fast....Reinhart is not a 70 point player with Eichel and Jeff Skinner or Olofsson....

Offensively Strome has a higher ceiling. the trade for Reinhart is about defense. I think he plays great defense and could probably do that at C. It feels like a bit of an OVERPAY actually....Strome will be about a mil or 2 cheaper and have a higher offensive ceiling....while Reinhart has superior D. That's the tradeoff.

except that Carolina needs top 6 forwards more than they need RD. Trouba is significantly more expensive and would be behind Hamilton and Pesce on the depth chart, and even if he plays his off hand carolina is loaded with at least 4 guys who would be on their natural side, again all significantly cheaper than Trouba. Just not a fit

Yeah hard disagree. Their top 6 seems locked in.

Svech - Aho - Turbo
Foegle - Trocheck- Necas

Those lines have been solid.

Staal and Geekie most likely become 3C/4C next year.
Dzingel and McGinn come back as well. That just leaves a couple bottom 6 winger to fill. Hayden fleury probably gets you one of those. and then it's a 4th liner to fill in.

Not sure it's Trouba's fault that Slavvin and Pesce and Hamilton have some of the best contracts in the league. Though, if they try and go for a Hamilton extension, there's no way that's going to be under 10 mil annually. Also it's LHD where Carolina is loaded. Everyone on the Left side is locked up for at least 3 years and Bean is ready. It's the right side they need more help with.

but that's just it. even if they do bring in trouba, where does he play? He's not going to displace either guy on RD and he'd have to play his off side to get into the top 4, and he wouldnt displace slavin, so he'd be on his off hand on the 2nd pairing and costing a whole lot of money to do it.

I think he plays on the 3rd pair in year 1 yeah and Carolina either deals Hamilton for a boatload at the deadline or they swing for the fences and resign. Carolina isn't like Boston, they distribute time pretty evenly among dpairs. But the main concern in Carolina has been play in their own zone, I think Trouba helps a ton with that.

Buff says no to any deal for Reinhart that doesn’t include 1st rd picks.
Carolina definitely says no they don’t need defenseman.
Colorado probably says no they want forwards if they move Zadorov not a middle tier d prospect and throw away pick.

Carolina have a grand total of 1 RHD signed after next season.

If Buff is going into full rebuild mode they might as well deal Eichel too because they're not getting 1st rounders AND a legit top 6 player for Reinhart, who....has yet to establish that he can be a top line player without an elite linemate dragging him along.

How does Colorado have any room for more F's? They have 9 already signed for next year. And that's before the RFA's Bura, Jost, Nichushkin, Kamenev coming through and Newhook, etc on deck. With this trade. Byram steps up to the NHL to give Colorado 6 Dmen. Timmons is the extra for RHD, Hajek is the extra for LHD.

Colorado could ideally use a top 6 winger. Nichushkin, Compher and Donskoi should be the 3rd line next year, Then some combination of PEB, Calvert, Kaut, and Jost (who is probably available via trade) is your 4th line and 13th forward. Kamenev is going to be somewhere else next year and would be a good cheap pick up for some looking for a bottom 6 C. Newhook most likely goes back to BC next year. On D, they still have as prospects Byram, Timmins, Helleson, Zhuravlyov (who played in the KHL as a teenager), and even deeper Lindholm and Anderson(who I don’t think is an NHLer). Hajek isn’t jumping the 1st 3, and likely not little Z so I just don’t see a fit because I don’t see the Avs trading Zadorov for a 3rd and an AHLer.

That’s nice but...Zadorov doesn’t net them a top 6 winger lol. Colorado is going to have to accomplish that elsewhere and if you use NHL assets you’re filling one hole and creating another. .itll most likely be a UFA signing.

What’s more likely is Bura-Kadri-Donskoi 2nd line and Jost playing 3rd line LW opposite Nichushkin.

Under this scenario Byram is in the NHL (which he should be)

Helleson is 19 putting up 6 points in the NCAA. He has 2-3 years before landing in the NHL at a minimum.

Zhuravlov has another year or 2 before even coming to NA and then needs at least another year or 2 to adjust to NA.

Again, for this season with Zadoraov out of the picture Colorado gets an NHL ready prospect with some upside AND a 3rd. After Byram the only D prospect ready for NHL mins is Timmons. Colorado needs more than that.

I never said Zadorov alone nets a top 6 wing, I agree that it ends up probably being via FA.

Going into next season they have zero use for Hajek as they have to move a piece as discussed to move to get Byram into the line up, giving Helleson(Helleson isn’t ever going to be a big pt producer that’s not his game)and little Z another year, and they already have a Hajek in Lindholm, also if they want flexibility with an option guy they can re-sign Barberio.

I’m not against a trade like you suggested for Z, but like I said not for a guy that isn’t likely ever to play in the NHL for them and a 3rd pick.

I wouldn't equate Hajek to Lindholm. Lindholm is a defense only guy (has been at every level he's played at) who doesn't really have any upside left. Hajek does being about 3 years younger, bigger, faster, etc. and most likely jumps Lindholm in the depth chart instantly. He's in a very similar place to Ryan Graves when you traded for him, having a good bit of upside, but not being able to stick in the NHL or be an elite AHL contributer. Good guy to take a chance on.

But also the role is different, Hajek is less than a year older than Makar and Girard. Zadorov is a 3rd pair guy who is going to cost you about 3 mil to sign for a 3 year bridge. You probably don't want to do that. But even a 1 year deal is going to cost you 2.75 mil so you're not really gaining much ground regardless of length and for guy who became a healthy scratch towards the end of the year you don't want that. I'd figure Byram steps in as a 3rd pair guy. You take this year to evaluate Hajek in the AHL and spot fill if someone goes down, and if you like what you see, he becomes your 3rd pair guy when Cole leaves for a lot cheaper than Zadorov.

The truth is that Zadorov's value is not super high right now. He had a tough time passing Kevin Connauton in the lineup at the end of the year. That's not great. And it's really not great for a guy slated to be making 2.5-3 mil on a bridge for the next few years. His value is a bit more than a 3rd, and Hajek is a good definition of a bit more. He's got some upside, and in the right system can be a solid 3rd pair guy with potential to occasionally fill in on the 2nd pair and not get you in trouble.

I don't think a 2nd is on the table for Zadorov, a high ceiling prospect is most likely off the table as well, and I don't think Colorado needs any bottom 6 players at all...a 3rd + a Dman with some upside is a solid return here.

Yeah I agree with your assessment there. Though I do think Zadorov was and has been a bit of Bednar’s whipping boy sometimes to an extreme and on occasion to the detriment of the team like when Connauton played some games in his place.

Glad we can agree. And yeah I'd agree with that, Bednar is a great defensive coach, but some of his decisions have been a touch excessive.
