Avs have a bunch of expiring deals that will pay for Makar and Landeskog's raise even with Saad's extension on board. Bowers, Kaut, Werner, and Byram are all near NHL-ready to replace the more expensive expiring depth players like Bellemare, Calvert, Grubauer, Cole, etc. Read my post on the Avs to see what I mean: https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/1701845

Change the 1st to a 2nd in the Avs deal. The Calgary deal is very fair imo for both sides. Hawks can get back a 2nd with Matheson too, Keith is still very good

I doubt the Avs are willing to make that trade. Florida declines since the deal doesn't make sense for them. They aren't really contenders so trading Matheson for a 36 year old defenseman doesn't make sense

The key reason for Florida making that deal is that Matheson's deal is heavily back-loaded while Keith's deal is heavily front-loaded. This is a move that would allow them to add to cap space while paying less in real dollars.

The season paused with Florida 3 points out of the wild card spot. I doubt the Blackhawks would actually trade Keith, but if Bowman called Talon, there's at least a conversation and a follow-up call. Q loves veteran defenseman.

Markstrom is not signing for that much. He will most likely re-sign with Vancouver for a minimum 5x5.5

Demko is their future starter. Markstrom wants to be the true #1 somewhere, and I doubt that Vancouver views Demko as a trade piece.

Demko has played a career total of 37 games in the NHL that's just not enough of a workload to prove he is true number 1. The Canucks have been patient and have been grooming Markstrom to be there number 1 goalie and Benning has stated they will look to re-sign Markstrom.
