Yes. Merkley may not stay with the big squad, I just think his talent is wasted in the AHL. Braun is signed for insurance.

Merkley game (mainly on the D side) still needs more growth and he needs to add 15 pounds of muscle before he makes the jump I say next year in the AHL then make the jump! I don’t want to rush him and have him fail like we did with Carl zyuzin and jillion.

Fifteen pounds is a major overstatement. He is similar in size to Quinn Hughes (in fact, same weight and Merk is 1 inch taller) and several other young offensive dmen. His defensive game has massively improved since the draft. Have you seen his numbers?

He was -29 in his draft year. This past season he was plus +20 with 76 points in 60 games. He was also the best player at last summers dev camp, his neutral zone play, dzone exits and ozone entries were top quality. He’s a great skater And elusive so he doesn’t need the maximum size. He’s bigger than Gaudreau and roughly the same size as Pat Kane. He’ll be just fine in his current stature.

Did you mean Andrei Zyuzin and Jeff Jillson lol? More recently it was Mirco Mueller. The first two were not developed by the current sharks personnel, that was like 20 years ago lol when the team was ran by Lombardi.

Yes I did. Zuyzin was Lombardi Carl and jillion were Wilson.
    All 3 were rushed.
I’m really excited about Merk but he is still really young at 19 and I think he could use 1 season at the AHL level and at least 10-15 pounds of muscle juniors vs NHL is a HUGE jump and the players get bigger stronger faster and I worry that merk will struggle and lose confidence. I think the AHL and some muscle will do him good.

Merks isnt ready. He needs to play against men for a bit and gain some weight. Also the slight issue that we cant play him like you normally play a small elite player like him(aka Quinn Hughes or Cale Makar)

    Nice job here

Merkley should spend a year in the AHL before playing with the big boys. It would also be better for his development if he played top line minutes in the AHL and on the top PP line then in the NHL on the 3rd pair and likely not getting any powerplay more.

Braun would cost way more and Merkley should spend a year in the AHL to get more minutes would be better for his development.

I sent Merk down. I think he could play for the Sharks next year but maybe not right out of camp. Paschinuk could make the team though...

Unlikely for Pasichnuk but maybe. Braun gets a lot more though.
