No need for Colorado trade. Wouldn't make sense for either team. Just sign Ramonov

I’ve mentioned this in another thread where we draft Lafreniere. There’s no need to keep Tatar, you’re lineup doesn’t include Poehling, Caufield, or Ylonen so the depth is there to move Tatar and get another 1st to draft the best available RHD. If Juulsen is over his injury once he gets a few games in Laval he will be our 3rd pair D so I wouldn’t trade him and Zadorov definitely isn’t worth th at offer, he’s a third pairing D and with Harris likely coming after next season I don’t think we need to take on Zadorov. Also I hate the guy for what he did to KK.

None of these players are going to be in the NHL next year, the year after sure. Poehling hasn’t exactly lit up Laval, Ylonen needs a bit of AHL time at least and Caufield is plying another year in college and will need a bit of time in the AHL after that, no need to rush. Yeah Zadorov is probably unnecessary, could sign a 3rd pairing guy for 1 year if Mete needs to play in the AHL a bit. Idk Fleury is better than Juulsen no?

Point is extending an aging Tatar when the young talent is near doesn’t make sense. Sure it might hurt the team next year but going forward it’s the right move. Keeping Tatar for next year and letting him walk would be a waste when he’s got good value now. I think Kovy should come back on a one year deal to help fill the hole of Tatar while Poehling and Ylonen develop in Laval.

2021 the left wingers are Lafreniere, Drouin, Poehling

Yes exactly. Trade Tatar at the draft for an extra first round pick (around 16th overall) and move up in order to draft one of Drysdale or Sanderson around 10 if one of them falls. No need for Zadorov indeed.

So you’re banking on that 6% chance assuming the season isn’t cancelled.

Even if it is canceled, the odds wouldn’t change much

Idk, what happens if they say everybody gets one ping pong ball for the top 3? I don’t think that happens but what do they tell playoff teams if they outright cancel the season, “really sorry about that but you know act of god and since you were playing well we are going to screw you a second time by not letting you have any reward at all”? I find it one of the more fascinating what if discussions in regards to the lottery if the season cancels completely.

That’s how u keep parity in the league. Are u going to give Colorado, Washington or Pittsburgh Lafreniere lol? They either do a lottery for playoff teams to determine spots 16-18. Or they make it a league wide lottery with same odds but teams can only move up a maximum of say 12 spots

If the season is cancelled teams that lost playoff games deserve at least a shot at something don’t you think, they lost a shot at the Cup and how much is that worth? But on the other hand Detroit being epically bad shouldn’t be overly penalized with a late 1st. Maybe a hybrid, where everybody has a shot at the top 3 with weighting in tiers where the BOS, TBL, STL, COL of the world have a 1 in (pulling a number out of the air here) 200 or 0.005% chance of winning one of the top 3 spots, then the non-playoff teams are slotted so none of them are overly penalized, then another lottery for the “playoff teams” for 16-31 weighted in reverse. Like I said an interesting discussion. But I kinda like your idea of moving up no more than 12 spots so no one is overly penalized for bad luck.

Never gonna happen. 1000% if Romanov doesn't make the Habs, he goes back to the KHL.
