Well yeah too bad, Cirelli isn't getting traded. You want him then a OS is the only way to go. And if the cap drops dramatically then there wont be any offer sheets.

FWIW Go ahead and OS Cirelli, Doesn't mean he'll sign it. He loves Tampa and i doubt he has any interest in a OS same could be said with Sergachev.

Anyone can offer sheet him and he can pick the best offer. If we offer enough that Tampa becomes motivated to trade, we get exclusive negotiations on our terms.

Name me one reason why Cirelli would leave a cup contending team in Tampa for the likes of the Rangers? First off the taxes are cheaper here in Florida and New York City has among the highest taxes in the world. So he'd make less there then here. Tampa is much closer to the cup then the Rangers. So yeah why would he leave Florida for New York.

Ok, I’ll dance...

Panarin had the same opportunity to dodge taxes and go to Miami to a team projected to be better than the Rangers and he passed on it. You’re talking the like 5-8% taxes for NY and NYC. It’s not a life altering amount of money to pass on when you’re talking about millions of dollars per year these guys make. It matters to some, but not every player. I don’t believe you have any insight whatsoever as to Cirelli’s financial or economic beliefs or situation to have the right to tell us what he will choose.

Take Cirelli out of Tampa and tell me how much better Tampa is that the Rangers for the next 5-8 years. Stamkos and Hedman are on the wrong side of 30. They’ve run their organization thin with low draft picks and trading away picks. They still have good players in their system and have historically been a great drafting team but Yzerman is gone - is it a sure thing that will continue?

Cirelli could join a NY team on the upswing featuring a duo in Zibanejad and Panarin that is just as formidable as Kucherov and Point. Kakko, Kravstov, Lundkvist, DeAngelo, Fox, Trouba and Buchnevich all under 26 is a bright future - what’s Tampa’s future when this window closes? And how much longer does it stay open?

So don’t talk like you woke up in Gary Bettman’s underwear this morning. Have a little humility and consider another perspective before you pop off like you’re the only person sitting around with an internet connection and an opinion.

The only reason TB trades their good younger players is to create cap space. This trade adds to their cap.

Two roster players for basically the league minimum for each? Look at what they have under contract for next year. Your argument doesn’t make sense. They need cheap players who can play in the NHL next year and also need to move out salary. They have about a half dozen guys on $6m contracts with NTC that nobody wants. They literally have no fathomable way of filling out their roster and signing their restricted free agents while staying under the cap unless they exchange some people making $5-6m for some guys making $1m.

Ok so let's say this trade happens and they still don't have enough cap to sign or match an offer sheet for Sergachev. So now TB has lost 2 younger players.

Sounds like a Tampa problem to me. They should have thought about that before they signed Palat, Johnson, Gourde, Killorn, McDonagh and Vasilevskiy to their terrible deals.

The assumption is that not having to pay one of Cirelli or Sergachev will leave enough money to sign the other, and Cernak. I’m sure they will do whatever they can to trade one of those forwards listed above - i hope no team in the league is dumb enough to help them out. That’s why I made a trade offer instead of an offer sheet - this gives them immediate roster help, and two firsts. They’re likely to only get a 1, 2 and a 3rd if he leaves via offer sheet. Rather than being one of many teams to submit an offer sheet to Cirelli’s agent, I think it’s smarter to incentive Tampa to make a move, rather than leave the power in Cirelli’s hands to go to the offer/team he chooses.

Yes that is a TB problem and it's why they won't trade away a good young player with out it freeing up a bunch of cap space. I'm sure someone would happily take Gourde or Johnson if they are getting Cirelli. Or more likely they just trade Johnson or Gourde and keep their younger players.

You’re probably right about this. The hope is that our offer is better than any other offer and they feel a couple first round picks, a former first round pick and a couple young defensemen are a means to an end toward keeping Sergachev and Cernak. I guess that’s why none of us are NHL GM’s, eh?
