Quoting: WhatNowDiscussion
I like some of the ideas here but rumors are that DeHaan will be moved before Maatta, if we want Seabs gone Hawks are going to have to buy him out because part of the problem is that Seabs won't waive his NMC clause, I rather keep Krys as he's only had one season of pro up his sleeve and I think all hawks fans want to see what lankinen has to offer, and Boone would simply be a depth piece to a team that is mainly depth players. I rather get a draft pick for Maatta. Kubs is probably going to get a similar bridge deal as Laine but maybe 5 mil instead of 6. I also don't see Mitchell starting in the pros. Maybe a callus or two but he'll be one of the last cuts made before the season starts.
I'll try to respond to these one by one:
Honestly, I like De Haan more than Maatta and I know CHD has issues staying healthy, but he was exactly what we needed before he got hurt and they could have a hard time moving him, due to his injury history. Maatta is younger and played pretty well this season, I think they'd have an easier time finding a trade partner there and might get more back. That said, I'm not going to be torn up if either of them are gone.
The Krys-Hill trade is out of left field, I admit. I was trying to get creative lol. Hill has just played so well at both levels and Arizona has two NHL-caliber goalies right now. That may work to their benefit coming out of expansion, but if they could get another piece to help them elsewhere, maybe they'd do it? They have another pretty good guy coming up too I think and I'm not sure of Hill's waiver eligibility next season.
Jenner for Maatta is just me looking for a way to solidify the 3rd line, which I think this does. Jenner has some scoring upside, maybe you unlock that with Nylander, while also helping along his defense. As the other guy in this thread mentioned, this trade doesn't make much sense for Columbus, so there's that too.
Kubalik's contract will be really interesting. $5 million+ just seems like a lot for a guy who has been in the league for only a year. Ideally, the get him on another one year deal, which will keep him as an RFA for another offseason and then sign him long term if he has another productive year. That's really unlikely, but like I said, ideal. IMO, they underpaid Panarin with his first extension; maybe they can negotiate something similar with Kuby.
Mitchell could go either way for me. The reason he stayed in college another year was because he wanted to be as close to NHL ready as possible by the time he was signed. Besides maybe Lucas Carlsson, its not like we have any other D-prospects bursting down the door. I think they give him a chance, given that he has a strong training camp (whenever that ends up being) and send him down if things aren't working out.
