Great before he was hurt, a bit slower after. Still a good player on this cap. He could be Alex Tuch 2.0 on a cheaper contract.

This is a good deal. A young, skilled, and talented player who has provided a lot in a short amoun of time. Future is looking brighter than ever.

not even close. Blais has been one of the better performing forwards on the bottom 6.

How do people say this deal is good but the Engvall deal isn't?

Well when he hits over 100 NHL games played than he deserves more than NHL minimum.

I know Dubas gave Engvall $1.25 X 2 yrs before he hit the 100 NHL game mark so.....

Imagine the out rage if Dubas uses this contract to base Goat's next contract. Oddly numbers wise, Goat is a better NHL player, Blais has better AHL numbers so the potential is there.

I find it interesting that although only two people left what could even arguably be described as negative comments, 6 people voted "No" this is not a good signing. Sometimes I wish that CapFriendly's software required you to explain a poll vote, or else didn't count it. (You hit the "yes" or "no" button, you're carried to the Reply box, and if you don't hit "Submit," your vote isn't registered.)

Why does everything have to do with the Leafs.

I have a habit of hitting no on every Leafs signing because they are all bad.

Good question. Does every baseball moment have something to do with the NYY? No.

I think people generally look at a players offensive numbers and vote accordingly. Blais has scored only 20 points in 83 career games. His numbers don't reflect those of a player making double league minimum. I think we need to hear from Blues' fans who've watched him play all season. Clearly, Doug Armstrong sees potential here. He's still only a second year player and has developed well since being drafted in the 6ty round. It's amazing how essential depth players are in the playoffs, too. On paper, this seems like an overpay. In reality...I'm not really qualified to answer.

There are millions of Yankee fans outside the NY metro area. Far more Yankee fans than there are Leafs fans outside of Toronto.

A really good question on this extension is how many thought prior to cov19 that Blias at 1.5 million AAV would be steal for the Blues and how many thought that's about right?

I think Blias is amazing personally and this is steal.

But what was he projected to get before cov19?
Did he get less cause of the loss in revnue to the Blues???

Blais has been in and out of the lineup (and up and down the lines) way too frequently to have a well-formed opinion on him. I think they could've come together and agreed on a 1 yr deal under 1 million, but the organization sees enough potential in him to opt for 2x1.5m and hope that the 2nd year pays dividends.

Blais is a good middle six wing option. Not the smartest defensively, but a good forechecker; and he finishes every check. The physicality is a huge part of his game, but it also has gotten him into some injury trouble. He has smooth hands and likes to handle the puck. I thought he fit really well stylistically with Perron and ROR but Sanford eventually took over that spot. My guess is that Blais will get some time with them, though, and Sanford could be put to use as the finisher on Thomas' line.

I would hardly call this a steal. His 82 game point pace for this season was 27 points. Now for a 6th round pick that's only played the equivalent of a season's worth of games, I'd say his ability to stick in the NHL is unexpected and impressive; but let's not act like this guy is going to start potting 20+ goals. He's a decent forechecking forward with a physical edge to his game, but he's not overtly skilled. His playstyle is that of a bottom six forward, so this contract is about on par with that.

This is a bad contract.
They gave him way to much. If it was 800 or 900k I'd say great. you just gave a guy 1.5 million per who did not prove he was worth 1.5 million per.
