Idk you could make the 2nd a 3rd, but getting Puljujarvi and a 1st is a pretty solid return. That could be a guy like Noel Gunler if he falls.

The only way I see the oilers doing this is if both tierney and duclair sign deals for more than 2 years

They're both RFAs. EDM could have both for 8 years.

I think it could make a lot of sense for EDM, getting a real 3C let's you move Nuge to the Wing, and Duclair can play with McDavid.

Duclair-McDavid-Kassian(?)
Nuge-Draisaitl-Yammamoto
Benson-Tierney-Athanasiou

That's the best top 9 EDM has had in years.

I get that tierney could be a really good 3c in Edmonton and I would trade for him but I'm not sold on duclair. Throughout his career, he's been inconsistent

This season Duclair proved he's a top 9 player, and one who is good enough to score 20 goals. He's not the 40 goal scorer he looked like this season before the All Star break, but he's also not that player who came back from the All Star Game having been cursed by some witch.

He was brutally unlucky the second half of the season in terms of shooting % and point production, but so did everyone on the team not named Tkachuk or Ennis. In terms of his play, he generally looked like a top six player. He was making things happen, just nothing was finding the net. And as far as defensive play, he's still not great 5v5, but DJ Smith actually turned him into an effective penalty killer as needed.

Why would we want Puljujarvi? This is a terrible deal for Ottawa. It's essentially going up 15 spots in the draft for Tierney and Duclair.

Take out the 2nd and Ottawa might consider.

pulljarvis value is rlly low and i would say you need to add a 3rd to make this trade work and also ottawa loves duclair and they wouldn't trade him for an unknown

the oilers should hold off on duclair because since they are team with limited cap space, they shouldn't take the risk given that it has a bigger chance of backfiring then trading for tierney would

What will that Edmonton pick end up at? 23rd overall maybe? Ottawa will probably pick at 33? Not a huge difference really & knowing Ottawa they'll probably "reach" on a player anyways. Personally, I wouldn't trade Duclair for Puljujarvi 1 for 1. I can understand where you're coming from because I like Puljujarvi too, but it would have to be for something else.

(If we get Laf I can see Duclair being expendable tho)

Doesn't have to be Ottawa's 2nd, that was just the one I picked. Large thumbs, small phone lol.

The other 2nds look to be in the late 40's to early 50's range. That's a significant jump for two guys who likely aren't going to be in Ottawa long term anyway.

I like Duclair, but I think the upside on Puljujarvi is enough that I'd be willing to make that bet. I'd also like to clear room for a guy like Balcers or Formenton to play higher in the lineup next year, and I think Logan Brown could be a really good fit as a winger next year.

Ahh lol.

I just don't know if Puljujarvi is the right fit in Ottawa. Really depends on what happens at the draft as far as next season's lineup. I think Formenton has a chance but it all depends
