Grabbing PK help

Created by: Muzzin9
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 16, 2020
Published: Apr. 16, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Dermott signing was if he signs qualifying offer.
If not I'd imagine he'd sign for something around 1.2
Zacha plays PK mins same with Nate thompson.
Stetcher isnt my first choice but I mean you pay more for right side D.
Bring back schenn for right side depth. Spezza is easy for me because hes been solid and hes cheap.
Kerfoot gone because he blows and johnnson was over paid anyways.
I doubt the Canucks would trade stetcher for johnnson it would probably take kap.

Stetcher is a lower pairing RHD and Zacha isn't much if any improvement over Kerfoot IMO. The Leafs could do much better on all fronts here with the players involved.

No thanks.
palhal liked this.

I doubt that the Devils are gonna trade for a guy they drafted and lost as a college FA... Pass from the Devils.

i know EVERYONE knows my opinion on Zacha, but no. He's not better than Kerfoot. At all, and the difference is more significant than 1.25 million dollars

Toronto is in a cap crunch. Because Toronto is in a cap crunch, it drops the value of their players, as other teams know they need to get rid of some higher contracts for some cheaper ones. It isn't just about ability on the ice, it is also about cap space.

except there is more to it than that. If you trade a more expensive better guy for a cheaper worse guy the difference between their skill needs to equal their difference in cap hit. For Zacha for Kerfoot to make sense, Zacha would need to make league min. And then the leafs would still be a much worse team and they have much better options to move salary than get that much worse at 3C

I mean, Arizona has like 4 million in projected space for next season and not even 17 guys on their projected roster why arnt people freaking out how they have to trade their players for significantly worse ones because of the cap crunch. Obviously their players are worth less so the value is low and other teams can circled and get better players for cheap!

The majority of teams will likely be in a cap crunch this year. However, most other team fans don't have post after post of trading their 3rd liners with overblown contracts and expecting to get back top line defenseman and first-second round picks.

And most other teams fans dont have post after post of trading their useful players for crap picks and replacement level players 'because they're in a cap crunch' or their 4-5 defence for over blown costs because 'the leafs are desperate for defence".

the way y'all pretend this is a one way street is incredible

Again....Kerfoot isn't exactly well liked in New Jersey for bailing on us. Pass. Want nothing to do with him.

0 for 2. Kerfoot is a far better center then a winger and is good on the pk

If the Leafs have PK problems last season, it wasn't because of the forwards. Barrie (now gone) and Reilly just weren't/can't be used on the PK. Muzzin and Dermot were on LTIR. So that left Ceci/Holl and whoever. Just not having Barrie and Ceci on the team improves the Leafs overall.

I agree Kerfoot is better as a C, but he doesn't really PK.

He has the skillset to kill but the leafs have tons of options when healthy.

Zacha's worse than useless at 5v5, like a liability double agent for the other team

I just think it's conjecture to say he is good on the PK.

Yes, and? I never said anything about Zacha. I was just pointing out to Jack_ that Kerfoot hasn't ever played much PK. Did you interpret what I said as lobbying for Zacha > Kerfoot? Because I in no way believe that, nor would I even consider trading Kerfoot for Zacha 1 for 1, let alone adding.

Hes very good defensively. Hes almost like kapanen with his speed and ability to take away space. Hes not a shooting threat but hes still good enough offensively. Tavares is also a very good penalty killer but there isnt time for him

Yes, but Tavares got significant time on the PK in his last two years in NY, so it's fair to say that. All I'm getting at is that there is no concrete evidence that Kerfoot is good on the PK. He could be, and it's probably even likely that he would be. But to say he is 'good on the PK' is a bit of an overreach at this point in time imo.
