Had him pegged at $3m per, pretty spot on and a good deal for CBJ.

Wow, I was guessing 2.85M for 2 years... didn't expect to be that close. Glad to see CBJ joining in on the RFA phase given how many RFAs they have. I wonder what Merzlikins gets now? Maybe the same $ on one year?

This is a respectable contract - Not too much, not to little. Somehow CBJ both played it safe and smart at the same time here for the role Korpi has.

That’s damn good deal. Honestly can’t wait to see who Seattle will pick from the Jackets. Lots of solid players on good contracts

Thankfully Elvis is exempt. My money is on Nutivaara or Wennberg (assuming either of them don't get moved before then)

he'll be traded next year, way to much on a back up goalie.

he's a jobshare, not a backup. this contract is similar to Rittich, Talbot, and all the 1B or jobshare goalies.

That's an extremely reasonable price for a good backup.

Why would Jonas accept such a low offer.

It's not that low for the numbers he's putting up. Campbell had a 0.928 save percentage the season before he signed for 1.65M. DeSmith had a 0.916 the year he signed for 1.25M. Rittich had a 0.911 the year he signed for 2.75M.

It's not a steal but it's a fair deal for both sides.

Korpisalo could be a really nice trade piece after next season if Elvis truly is for real. Goalies are voodoo, though, so it may be difficult to repeat. In that case, he's an excellent tandem guy if Elvis hits a cold patch, or vice versa.

Kivlenieks played 6 games and was not good. He may one day be an NHL backup, but he's not right now. Even his AHL numbers aren't good.

Merzlikins is good, but he's got 33 NHL under his belt, and you just don't go into a season with a goalie tandem that inexperienced.

Not really sure what planet your on. Khudobin and Elliott are similar calibre goalies. Id say Korpisalo has more upside at this point as they are aging. 2.5 for Khudobin and 2 mill for Elliott in their 30s... id say 2.8 is pretty close to a backup goalies rate with his stats, age and inflation included. Korpisalo can be a fringe starter if needed.

Elvis had good numbers this season which is great but keep in mind rookie syndrome. Come in with a bang and slide off the next season or their entire career. Playing a full season compared to a stretch of games has shown to have significant differences in how most goalies perform or transition into a #1. Elvis wasn't a highly touted goalie. So it can really be a flip of a coin at this point.

NHL history is littered with rookie years off the charts than steady or drastic declines. I wouldn't be putting all my eggs in a basket and passing it off to Elvis just like that. You will need a capable goalie to fill in for Elvis as he develops and builds stamina.

I can't take anyone seriously who says elvis wasn't a highly touted goalie. He's been one of the top goalies not in the NHL for years.

Thats why he was drafted in the third round and after 6 other goalies.... Sure he did alright outside the NHL but so did many goalies, highly touted or not. Point is, he still needs time to develop and the sophomore jinx is real. That the whole point, Korp at 2.8 is a standard backup contract for a fringe #1 who can stand in while Elvis works on his stamina. I can name handfuls of goalies that do well outside the NHL and then don't pan out in the NHL.

yeah i have to break it to you but Elvis isn't a 22 year old goalie.
On top of it, Korpi is not a fringe number 1.
2.8 is a lot for a backup level goalie. It's not even worth arguing about.
