The most number of 1st round draft picks in one year by one team was 5, done by the Montreal Canadiens in 1974. The Canadiens selected Cam Conner at #5, Doug Risebrough at #7, Rick Chatraw at #10, Mario Trembley at #12, and Gord McTavish at #15. (Thanks google)

After doing some research, Colorado had 4 1st round picks in 1998, Boston had 4 in 1970, Islanders had 4 in 1999 (3 top 10), Montreal had 4 in 1972

Ottawa is close to the record ahah tears of joy

St Louis isn't giving up their 2020 1st round pick to move Steen and Bozak, And what makes you think they'd waive for Ottawa anyways? And fat chance of Edmonton trading their 2020 1st for that offer either.

I want it so badly. There are so many players I want in that 1st round.

You guys don't need any more firsts. You need luck in the draft lottery more

St. Louis trade is a bit too much on St. Louis side. Ottawa probably needs to give a 2nd back.

The Edmonton trade is too much from Ottawa's side. That's like giving up Tierney to move up 10-15 spots in the draft.

The Edmonton 1st is literally moving back 10 spots in exchange for a really good 3C.

Also Bozak is a pending UFA who could be looking at his last contract next summer. Playing top six in Ottawa will do more to help him cash in than playing 3rd/4th line in St Louis. Also he and DJ Smith have a lot of history from their time in Toronto.

Steen on the other hand is a potential buyout candidate in STL, and waiving to play in Ottawa makes more sense than getting bought out.

Why would EDM want to give their 1st? Like yeah, they need a C and Tierney is a great add but instead, a second rounder maybe. And thought OTT would prefer to go with the young players

The difference between the EDM 1st and the OTT 2nd only ten spots (23 to 33). Not that huge a jump for EDM in exchange for a really good 3C. Let's them play the three big stars (29, 93, 97) all in the top 6 without ruining their depth.

And while I think Ottawa should, and will go younger next year, having a good Vet C like Bozak is still important at this stage. Going super young all the way down the middle is not a smart play. I think Ottawa's top 4 Cs next year would be Bozak-Norris-White-Anisimov/Chlapik. Gives a good mix of veterans and youth.

Steen on the other hand, will be 4th line or press box. Sens didn't shy away from sitting an expensive contract like Boedker when he wasn't good enough. He's good to have in the room, but if he can't play, he won't play.

I think STL does this in a heartbeat. They would only be moving down from like pick 27/31 (late 1st) to pick 65ish, to free up 10mil so they can re-sign Pietrangelo, Dunn and cover the many raises they have signed (Schenn, Scandella, Blais and Faulk). It's much more important that they keep Pietrangelo and Dunn, their #1 and 4 d-men than lose Steen and Bozak, 3rd and 4th line players. I'd argue, Ott could get more.

Also, a side note as someone else had mentioned all the 1st rounders, Kings had 4 in the Sedin draft (in 99 or 00 or 01) can't remember which year...

Tierney isn’t worth dropping 13 spots.
