Description
Just to explain.... Bobrovsky buyout less Ekblad RS still means a cash payout of approximately 21m by Toronto. So what is 21m cash worth in terms of player/draft pick value? To be conservative lets say 2 x 2nd round draft picks. Now Liljergren (late 1st round pick) and Kokkonen (2nd round last year) gives Florida 5 years of potential ECL contracts to replace the 5 years remaining on Ekblads deal in order to minimize costs. Johnsson is equal to about 2nd round pick so 4x2nd and an already developed 1st for Ekblad. I think this would give Florida enough room to sign all there UFAs and RFAs and stay within there self imposed cap. Let me know if my logic makes sense!!

There's no way Florida retains for 5 years on Ekblad. We'd have to give Sandin and Robertson on their ELCs. Liljegren and Kokkonen aren't ready to play yet so their ELCs are useless.

Kokkonen is unsigned at this point... Liljegren would play this year, If Florida doesnt do something like this they probably lose Dadonov or Hoffman. The retained makes the trade doable otherwise its to much even for the leafs.... This is more a $$ trade then a talent trade. The question is what are the $$ worth in terms of trade value.

Not about the player... Its about the $$. Florida has to do something drastic and something like this is good for both teams

I did. You talk about ELC contracts but those guys aren't NHL ready. Liljegren isn't developed yet... if you gave Sandin instead of Kokkonen maybe but Kokkonen won't be ready for a while even if he makes the NHL.

Would you trade Marner half retained for three 1sts and four 2nds? Marner is worth less than Ekblad + two 1sts...

P.S. Kokkonen is a 3rd round pick.

No of course not but i think you are way over valuing Ekblad's trade value. This is not a cap trade or a player value trade its a $$ trade. This trade also allows them to sign all UFAs and RFAs when then probably would have lost Hoffman if it wasnt done.

I think they would just say. Take the two 2nds we'll keep Ekblad... Let's not forget they are divison rivals.

Having Ekblad would push Toronto into being basically cup favorites. He's a 1st overall pick.

laugh laugh So basically trash for Bobrovsky and Ekblad, No way in hell Florida makes that trade, And FYI Tallon isn't retaining 50% on Ekblad when the team needs to shed salary doubt ownership would even allow it.

I actually hate everything about this. Much better options out there IMO. Hard no from this guy.

That being said... I think that your RFA numbers are relatively in line.

The Leafs could do much better in a large trade that weaponizes cap space for buyout purposes.

I dont think you understand.... FLA has 21m in cap space minus the 10m to get them to self imposed cap of 11m... They have 13 signed players for next year meaning they have to sign at least 8... UFAs include Hoffman, Dadonov, Haula, Pysyk.... RFAs include Wallmark and Weeger.... If they dont do something like this they likely cant sign any UFAs. Not so funny anymore EH?

The funny part is you thinking that you're getting both Bobrovsky and Ekblad for lesser pieces, Then you expect Dale Tallon to eat half of Ekblad salary for pretty much garbage. Only Liljegren is decent the rest are nowhere close to getting you Ekblad let alone adding Bobrosky who wouldn't even waive his NMC for Toronto anyways. I find the whole deal absurd to begin with. I really don't give one iota what happens to Florida. Yeah they will be screwed this year. Good chance that both Hoffman and Dadonov are gone as Tallon wont be able to afford them for what they will command on the open market. Yeah Florida is screwed but Tallon isn't giving away his #1 RHD for garbage either and Liljegren isn't no Ekblad.

Why would Bobrovsky agree to waive his NMC to Toronto just to be a CBO candidate? Even he's not that stupid.

It is a risk but an affordable one even if he doesnt make the team. May have big upside maybe a flop. Risk/reward

He gets 2/3 of his salary and becomes a free agent... Big win for him!

With a CBO he gets full salary so Dubas would owe him 6 x 10 for the remainder of his deal. Don't see him doing that 2/3 is a regular buyout not CBO

He is already a flop. It is all risk, plus you would have to give him more than 1.5M to leave Russia again. Dude has no interest in playing a physical game or playing defense. I’ve watched it first hand.

Maybe, maybe not.... Hes a 3rd line winger in this scenario. There are other options. He played on 2 really bad teams when he was 18-22yo. Just hoping for a diamond in the rough

Other teams cant afford to buyout Bobrovsky and FLA needs the cap space desperately.
