This doesn't have to do with this post, but I was thinking about teams that could be a good fit for Craig Smith, and honestly the Oilers are probably up there. Could be perfect for the Oiler's 3rd line. Whatever line McDavid is on is already a good line, Draisaitl's line also tore it up. I think he would be an awesome add. He can pot you 20 goals in limited minutes and has had a good past few years and was an analytical BEAST this year. Just curious about your thoughts on that as an Oiler's fan. Contract likely 3.8-4.5 for 2-3 years.

Yah @CD282 Did one with Smith already. https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/1708172 It is hard trying to do something different every time with only a limited number of UFA's and everyone (including me) over-evaluating their players. I try to do trades that benifit both teams and work from there, Sometimes I am wrong as well as I dont see teams like Columbus, but we in the west see a lot of Toronto as it is on at 5pm here, otherwise we see a lot of Blue jays at that time. But anyways I really like what CD did on hisp tread. The team looks terrific and well thought out. He did a great job.

I honestly think Bear will sign 3 years for 3 million, but I ran out of cap space unless I ran with 22 players. so totally my doing. Greedy got the best of me.

I can see him signing that cheap for 2 years. And obviously if they went after Smith they wouldn't go for Hoffman, so the cap isn't really an issue here...

Yeah, he did a good job on the first one you linked, a bit generous/optimistic towards the Oiler's in some cases imo, but we all have that inclination to our own teams and it was nothing major. I don't see the second one with Hoffman though. Did you forget to link it?

Edit: I especially think that Johan Larsson signing in the first one is sneaky good.

Yah I like Johan Larsson as well. I was hoping the oIlers would get him at the trade deadline. But that passed with nothing.

The thing with offer sheeting someone is usually it pisses another GM off. Like example Toronto offer sheets Bear. Bear goes to Toronto. The next year or 2 the pissed off Gm offer sheets a guy like Sandin.
Thats why it just does not happen much. Also say Toronto offer sheets for 3.5 million, than the oilers can match that and thats what the pay is with no negotiating.

I think the Hoffman one is the better lineup. As much as I love Smith, he just doesn't put up the points that Hoffman does. Having said that though, the Hoffman one is over the cap and I think he makes more than he's signed for in that ACGM, so I prefer the Smith one.

Good points. Khaira should be put on waivers as he sucks and is only good on the PK, but he sucks so bad it doesnt tip the scale to keep him.

Sure, he could sign an offer sheet (remember he has to sign it), but what are the odds that it comes to that? There's got to be a team out there that needs RHD, has the cap room and assets to make the offer, and has a GM that is actually willing to make the offer (we don't see many). Then, Bear has to decide that he wants to sign it. He had a solid year in Edmonton and the team did well; is the team(s) that offer sheeted a more desirable destination in his opinion? Is the (likely) marginal increase in earnings in his young career worth changing situations when the one he's in seems to be going all right? And finally, I don't see any team offer sheeting Bear to an amount that the Oiler's wouldn't match so all this would do is needlessly piss off the Oiler's and put them in a worse situation than they could've been. That's a dick move and other GM's won't forget it.

I believe Hoffman will have several teams offering $5.5 to $6 million on at least a 5-6 year contract. Not sure if it's the same Hoffman, but if it is he might come with some baggage.

laugh laugh No way in hell Mike Hoffam takes a 3 year deal he wants long term. Try more like 5 x 6 or 6 x 6 for Hoffman Detroit would easily offer him far more then that.

You are most likely correct. He is at the age where a long contract is better, he definitely wont sign a 1 year contract to get more the next year or 2 when the cap goes back up.
