what is jankowski even worth anymore as he had a horrific season this year. Toronto may want him as he is from the area and could come cheap. But from calgary fans what would they even want for him

Totally disagree with "Calgarys greatest strength is their plethora of underrated skilled players", totally don't see that, they lack skilled players in their middle 6 and their biggest weakness is a big hole or two in their top 6.

This team was over built on defense and now two of those dmen are set to be UFA'S, they have holes in their middle 6 and questionable goaltending.
Gaudreau basically has one more season before a decision has to be made if they're keeping him or dealing him, their 1C might be more of a 2C and Backlund is on the other side of 30 with 4 more years left on his deal, Giordano while still really good will be 37 when next season starts (if it starts at a normal time). Calgarys prospect pool isn't one you hear much about so I don't get the sense they have a ton of young talent coming up anytime soon, none that are likely high end talent anyway, they do have a nice group of good young dmen though so they look pretty set on the back end at least.

So when I add all that up, look at some of the contracts they have and the ages of some of their core players I don't see a cup in the Flames future anytime soon unless some changes are made, honestly this team looks lost in the woods.

I don't think that kinda trade with the Devils will happened.
I think they need to get a #1 goaltender (Holtby, Lehner or Markstrom) will be become available in free agency.
I really don't know what to think about this team. Their prospects pool is one of the weakest while this team is not a serious contender and half their defenseman will be gone. Giordano will be 37 next season and while they have a interesting young group of defenseman (Valimaki, Kylington, Andersson) none of them has elite potential.
They're basically ok on every category while lacking a #1 goaltender.

FYI - the NJD deal is not a fair package for a team that's trying to rebuild

I'm not sure. He was pretty good for a couple seasons before this last one. I'd just see him getting traded for another struggling forward. They could probably trade him to Toronto for a Malgin or something along those lines. Thanks for your input

I guess I just see all their top players minus Gaudreau and Tkachuk as underrated in the league. Monahan, Lindholm, Giordano etc. These are all elite level players but don't nearly get the appreciation they deserve. I agree the prospect pool is pretty weak but that's why Calgary needs a retool and to add a couple more young players like Severson, Zacha, Foote to their lineup

Thanks for your feedback. I don't think that trade will happen either, but I think it's a fair trade and would benefit Calgary in the long run. Their pool isn't very good, forward prospects like Dube, Pelletier, Zavgorodny, Gawdin are quite good but on defense there isn't much. Wolf looks like a great prospect in net though.

Very much agree, I think the Flames are at a point where it's go hard at filling holes through trades and/or free agency and really go all in with a more complete lineup to make a run at a cup with or make a real decision to tear down a bit and go through a real rebuild.
