A khl goalie would be helpful shesterkin, samsonov, vasilesky, bobrosky, etc are all proof. Plus on a 2year entry leafs can put money elsewhere and won't need to put 8 mill into a goalie for at least 6 more years

Rather is Robertson play with J.T. See if the kid is really that good. If he is than the boat ride from Russian can stop.

I don’t see Ottawa paying that much for a guy in that large a contract.

Draft picks from the Karlsson, Pageau and Duschene deals. All rental trades.

High picks in a great draft year though!!! And they are rebuilding. If this was the guy to make them cup contenders I say yes but it’s not they need a lot and they are 2-3 years away

Ottawa and San Jose 1st round picks are untouchable unless you have Detroit's pick.

Ok, I know I went a little Draft pick crazy....blame the four 1st Rd picks offer sheet player compensation for a player like Marner's worth.

And I got 2.6 million placed aside to prepare for Hyman and Freddie's raise if team and player chooses to resign.

It’s not an unreasonable sum but no gm would do that unless that was the final piece to get you over the hump and to the cup

Well the Habs also have a boatload of picks (25 picks over the next 2 years) and they are closer to playoff contention having an Allstar goalie and a young core. Maybe they'll be a better trading partner, considering they tried to steal Aho.

He's not worth 4 1sts on this contract.

Top 5 picks are worth 2 or 3 normal 1st round picks. Probably worth 3 this year because there is so much talent at the top of the draft.

It's pretty unreasonable unless the Leafs retain 2M on Marner. The San Jose pick is the number 3 overall pick right now (Its likely gonna be between 1 and 5). Imagine if it turned out to be LaFreniere and then you threw in 5 other high picks.

I agree with you 100% but..... if your in win now mode and need that 1 guy to get you there in the next few years I’d rather bank on mariner than a draft pick... but if I was GM I’d always focus on draft and bringing guys and losing that capital would drive me crazy

GM's don't make trades with future knowledge of where their 1st pick ends being; Scott Neidermeyer was drafted by a pick belonging to the Leafs and so was Robert Loungo, 2 HOF players the Leafs traded their rights to gain Kurvers and reacquire Clark. Heck I can also mention Rask as another future HOF the Leafs gave away ( JFJ, the GM at the time, allowed Boston to pick which top goalie prospect, Rask or Pogge to acquire Raycoft. Pogge had just won the World Jr. Gold medal, Rask was named #1 goalie of that Tourny)

Edit the trade, better >?
