COL-2 elite players, but one is a rookie
VGK-1 very elite player, one very good player
TOR-2 4th line scrubs bc I'm not a TOR fan, that must be what I think of them

NYR-1 hart front runner, and one very good player (but this has been the breadmans best season)
CAR-1 elite player, one very good player (Svech>.)
TBL-1 elite player, one very good player
CGY-2 nearly elite players
VAN-1 elite player, one very good (pp merch) player
WSH-2 elite offensive players, 0 average defensive players

DET-1 extremely underrated nearly elite player, 1 speedy boi (who's also v good at the hockeys)
NSH-1 elite player, one very good (but trending down slightly) player, swap FF with Ellis ant they go up at least a tier

OTT-2 high quality players that I would like to see have a team around them
DAL-1 very good player, 1 trending down very good player
BUF-1 elite player, one good player (this year at least, Reinhart last year pushes this duo near the first tier, I think he can get back to that, just had a down year this yr)

SJS-1 near elite player, one good player
WPG-2 massively overrated good players
CHI-one very good player, one good player, 2 players trending down
NYI-one very good player, one good but already trending down player
ARZ-one elite player who had a down year (if I took away from Reinhart, I have to take away from Hall), one below average payer

Yeah I didn't make that very clear. It's supposed to be more of a "which two players would you prefer to start a franchise with?"

Crosby & Malkin is the only correct answer. Both of them have the highest point per game career averages of the last 15 seasons & have more individual achievements combined than all the other duo. Maybe McDavid & Draisaitl will surpass them, but as it stands right now, Crosby & Malkin are the best duo & it’s not even close. Also, I would have Matthews & Tavares for Toronto.

... Panarin should be the frontrunner, he is better than Drai at nearly everything except scoring power play points, and doesn't play on a team with this McDavid guy

They arent a duo, they are both Centers.

Now OP let me know that is what he meant.

So I was right, but with the NEW information, I will say Pit and still be right

1) Drai
2) Mackinnon
3) Pastrnak

As I have said, and been agreed with by so many people already:
One cannot be the most VALUEABLE player on their team if there is another player they are in the race against for being the most VALUABLE player.
Same reason that marchy and Pasta shouldnt be on the list (and im a bruins fan). They are both equally VALUABLE to their team, so neither can be the MOST valuable.

This is a fact.

1. KacKinnon
2. Panrain (Zibby was out for a while)
3. Someone else
4. Drai
5. Pasta
6. Macdavid
7. Marchy

In the purest sense of MVP, my finalists would be Panarin, Hellebuyck, and MacKinnon.

The way the trophy is actually handed out tho (gotta be in playoffs, points race, etc.), I'd peg the actual finalists to be Drai, Pasta, and MacKinnon.

Taylor Hall with the Devils. They cracked the playoffs, but only won a single game.
They sucked, but Hall excelled.

Well said. And guess what: thats the Ted Lindsay award "Awarded to the NHL's outstanding player as selected by the members of the NHL Players Association (called the Lester B. Pearson Award from 1971 to 2009)"

Its dumb that they have had almost the same winner every year. Because they are two different awards.

Yep, basically all of the end-of-year NHL awards should be taken with a grain of salt. There is a chasm between the way the awards are defined and the way they are handed out.

Why have two MVPs, one from the writers (Hart) and one from the PA (Lindsay)? Why does the MVP always seem to have the most points when there is an award for most points (Art Ross)? Why do the Selke and Norris winners have to be amongst the league leaders in points? Why do the Vezina finalists always lead the league in wins?

There are much better ways to crunch the numbers in hockey than ever existed 10,20 yrs ago. (Different sport with simpler statistical breakdowns but) baseball MVP votes align with WAR more than any other stat like batting avg, HRs, etc. Maybe the NHL doesn't have a definitive WAR stat, but people that get votes should be able to see that there are better stats than raw points, wins, faceoff %, etc. to use in their voting process.

Exactly: and thats my point.

I am telling people Drai SHOULDNT win the hart, because he factually SHOULDNT, but that unfortunately doesnt mean he wont win it, because its dumb.

You are right. If the Hart, Ted Lindsay, and Art ross are the same, it probably isnt right. Unless of course the league leader in points (art ross) is playing on a crappy team (hart) and is that much better skillwise than everyone else (ted Lindsay)

But that isnt Drai!

No he shouldn’t, MacKinnon should. The Rangers aren’t a playoff team as it sits. Everybody in the Avs top 6 and Makar have missed 13-28 games, MacKinnon has 43 MORE points then the next highest scorer and the Avs are tied for 3rd most points in the league. Not disparaging the Breadman, actually love him, but MacKinnon deserves it in my very biased opinion.

That's actually fair, I was expecting you to say Drai should win it simply bc points, ignoring the fact that nearly 50% of his points comes on the PP (where he DOES play with McD) and is brutal defenseively, for me it's still Panarin, but Mack is definitely up there, likely in second
