Description
This is the 31 in 31 challenge. Do an AGM for each of the 31 teams in 31 days. This forces me to learn more about each team and how the lineups should/could look. To other users please feel free to participate, I'm looking for a challenge to keep me entertained.

Rules: 31 AGM's over 31 days, one for each team. Flat cap at 81.5. One CBO per team.

Please provide any feedback, I'm trying to learn more about each team here.

Colorado's greatest strength: excellent young core
Colorado's greatest weakness: scoring in the bottom 6, but its not a huge weakness

Montreal isn’t trading Poehling for a bottom pairing defenceman who is becoming ufa in 1 years. Poehling is only 21 and is two years from behind the best forward at the world juniors hockey championship.

I don't think there is a need for Shattenkirk because you already got makar and coming Byram. Also think Tierney would cost a bit more as he is doing good on a bad team
But otherwise this is good.

Avs have no reason to acquire another 3C. They currently have Mack/Kadri/Compher/Jost/Bellemare down the middle, and will soon be adding Newhook and Bowers. So Poehling is redundant, even if he's a good player. Montreal won't trade him though anyways as he's part of their future... especially not for Zadorov. Adding a 2nd is totally wrong valuation too. Oh and not to twist the knife in further but Poehling as a scratch doesn't make sense; he either needs to be playing in the NHL or in the AHL regularly rather than being a healthy scratch.

As for Shattenkirk, Avs don't need another D as he would just be blocking Timmins and Byram who could realistically both make the roster this upcoming season.

Contracts look fine, though I think Nichuskin gets around $2m and Graves just a touch under $3m ($2.5m for 2 years, or $2.8m for 3 years.. or somewhere in that region).

I think the defense will look like this:
Graves-Makar
Byram- Johnson
Girard- Cole (Timmins)

Plus I don't think Montreal will trade Poehling for Zadorov even though they were rumors for a trade between Montreal and Colorado. Habs are looking for either Graves or Girard but Colorado won't move them.
Tierney is the type of player Colorado need a full 200 foot player but I don't think Sens are looking to trade him at the moment.

Nah. Girard Johnson has been a pair for 3 yrs. Drop Byram to be with Cole so his minutes are more sheltered in terms of match ups.

To an outsider, this is a really really good team that only needs to sign the two Russian free agents and then see who makes the squad out of training camp. So I agree with everyone else that your two trades and the big signing are unnecessary. Nice job, though.

Thanks for the feedback. Poehling currently has done nothing at the pro level. AJ Greer is more NHL ready and is producing better. Zadorov would be the perfect partner for Webe, Petry, or Juulsen. If you have to go 2 years back to say a player was good, then there is a problem.

Thanks for your feedback. Byram isn't NHL ready imo, no need to rush him. Shattenkirk brings offense and experience. He would excel with Graves as his partner. Jost has a higher ceiling than Tierney and is 3 years younger, Ottawa would make that trade.

Thanks for providing feedback. I don't want this 31 in 31 to be boring for me or for viewers, so I'm trying to make trades and shakeup a bit for each team. Zadorov doesn't have a place on this team so he will be traded. Jost needs a change of scenery and Colorado could use a more productive albeit older and costlier center in Tierney

I guess it just goes to show that Colorado doesn't have many holes to fill, and therefore a semi-realistic AGM will be underwhelming. Never said in my description that the point was to overwhelm the fanbase

Dear Coga:

Maybe I'm being overly sensitive here, but I think you can afford to be a teeny bit more gracious when critiquing an educational effort by a poster who concedes up front that he doesn't have in-depth knowledge about your team (on which we knowledgeable CapFriendly users accept you as an authority). I think that a 31-in-31 constructor deserves a little slack. But this is just my unsolicited two cents. By the way, I also note that the very next Avs team post included a trade of Tyson Jost for a fourth, so by that standard, this effort isn't so terrible.

people can do rosters as they see fit, its just an honest assessment of the moves. Avs have a deep farm system and Shattenkirk and Ledue just clog it up when Byram Timmins etc are on the move to the next level.

Jost for Tierney is just an odd move, dont see why you want to get older and more expensive as a 3C when Avs have already just way too many options at 3C.

Absolutely 100% agree. I was just being something of an old maid complaining about what sounded to me like unnecessary harshness.

I'm sorry we are going to b deprived of seeing just how good your team is. I had them ticketed for the Conference finals vs. St Louis. And any one of the four resulting matchups (with Boston or Tampa) would have made for a classic Cup final.

yeah it sucks. really thought they could go quite deep this year. Getting healthier goign into the playoffs. It would have been a fun playoffs
Still could be but a lot of what ifs will set it regardless of what happens

You're welcome. smile

Greer has very little value. He doesn't have the IQ to play in the NHL; shown in numerous callups where he just ran around taking needless penalties trying to show his 'toughness'. That said, he is a star in the AHL which I guess counts for something. I don't see him bringing back anything substantial though, if anything at all. Maybe the classic annual Sakic prospect swap trade would work magic again though, as it did with Bigras/Graves.

Regarding Tierney, Avs are in win-now mode yes, but they also have to be mindful of the cap going forwards, and adding another $3.9m to their bottom 6 just isn't smart.

Shattenkirk would absolutely block Timmins, no doubt about it.
