Description
Adding Demelo is a slam dunk for me. He can play the stay at home d-man with Quinn Hughes and allow Hughes to make mistakes as he learns more how to play defense at the NHL level Demelo is a great guy for that.
Stetcher and Gaudette both get bridge contracts that if their value rises they can get bigger contracts in a few years.
Markstrom contract could be way off. I'm terrible at goalie contracts so please just tell me if I'm wrong.
The Eriksson trade is obviously a cap related trade. I don't know about the value but I'm going off what it took to get Marleau out of Toronto. If Heinen is too much return tell me.

If you have any problems tell me and I will change it.

None of those ufas are coming that cheap. Especiallt demelo and markstrom. That Anaheim trade makes zero sense for them if that pick is late.

With the cap not moving up a lot of guys aren't going to get as much money as might seem fair. They will either have to go to a non-contending team for more money or accept less money from a contending team. I've seen a lot of Demelo contracts at that money, I agree I don't know if Hoffman could come that cheap please give me a more fair value.
And would the trade work with a second instead of a third, or would I have to accept draft pick back instead of Heinen?

No way in hell DeMelo, Markstrom and Hoffman sign that cheaply DeMelo 4 x 3.5 Markstrom 5 x 5.5 minimal and Hoffman 5 x 6.5 Those are probably conservative numbers could be even higher.

Markstrom has only been doing this well for one year. But I can see your point, and your saying I'm off by as little as half a million on the others.

What you have to remember is that the cap isn't moving up so people are going to get less than their previous market value.

Teams like Carolina have the cap space to sign ufas like Hoffman markstrom. Demelo is probably staying in Winnipeg.
If your trading a first to get rid of Erikssons contract, all your getting is a 6th back. The leafs paid a first to Carolina to takes marleaus contract for 1 year

Then if they want to get paid they'll have to sign with non-contenders, Why should they take less on contending teams if they can get more on the open market. Hopefully if the cap does stay flat there will be a CBO that will help some teams. As a Tampa Bay Lightning fan as well i will be curious as to what Julien BriseBois does this coming summer. Tampa Bay is royally screwed no matter how you look at it. Not sure how he gets out of it without losing some good players there.

How's that. You can think of the Demelo contract as at 3750000 if you want.

But players don't like playing on non-contenders.

But they're not always going to be non-contenders especially Detroit and their proud history. Detroit's only about another 4 solid players from be a legit playoff team. If Detroit were to say get Alexis Lafreniere and say bring home Krug sign one of Lehner/Markstrom of Holtby and add another solid player like Hall or Hoffman they're much closer to a playoff team then a cellar dweller.

True but even then with those names you mentioned Detroit isn't a contender. But I take your point. What do you think of the new contracts?

Much better more realistic? I know Detroit's not a contender Even by a miracle we could get those players which all would be major pipe dreams. Doubt we get the #1 pick Krug stays in Boston. Doubt Hall or Hoffman have any interest in Detroit. Holtby might come to Detroit especially seeing that he has a great rapport with Yzerman doubt Markstrom or Lehner would possibly either to Carolina. Just saying that with the right personal anything is possible.

I think this is pretty darn good for an early effort. Yeah, you're low on all of the UFA's but you've gone after the right players and the resulting team is a definite improvement on the current squad, which was a playoff contender and an offensive moose. And contrary to the earlier comment, the Ducks would be seriously interested in that return for taking on Eriksson, as he is owed only $5 million after payment of his bonus on July 1st and that dovetails nicely with Anaheim's internal salary cap.

Sometimes I am; sometimes I'm a grouchy old fart. But I try to be honest and even-handed. The only bias I'll admit to is for Derek Grant.
