No from DAL. Value is good but they lack goal scoring and Robertson will help them fix that

Exactly.

.... the RHD issue is more pressing. The difference between Stephen Johns and Trouba is MUCH bigger than the difference between Robertson and Caamano.

Toronto says no dermott is worth at least a second and they would rather keep him then trading him for less

....you're going to want to tell the 100's of posts from Leafs fans that trade Dermott for a 3rd. But also Leafs are in a cap crunch, if his value is a late 2nd, he's getting traded for a 3rd because of your situation.

Leafs decline but the value of a 3rd is fine. They'll be looking for a roster player of similar value back, not a pick

Considering the cap situation, I would think a pick is 100% necessary. But if you'd like Brett Howden, he's yours.

Howden is a lot better for them right now if he was offered. Leafs need centres anyways and a 3rd round pick is 3-5 years away from likely making the league. That doesn't help them when they're trying to win now

Dallas most pressing need is scoring period. They are 2nd in the league in GA they are 3rd to last in GF. RHD isn’t more pressing than scoring. Is it easier to go from 3rd worst to middle of the pack or to go 3rd to 1st? Dallas isn’t acquiring an expensive dman for one of their best forward prospects. One you dropped into the 3rd line.

Sure I'd give you Howden for Dermott.

....Right I'm arguing that your lack of scoring is directly a result of having a grand total of 2 dmen that can actually move the puck and transition through the zone rather than a lack of shot generation.

Dallas plays a major dump and chase game because that is all that 4 of the Stars 6 dmen how to do. The analytics show that Dallas is actually pretty solid at high danger shot generation once they get into the zone. The problem is getting in there. That's where the need major improvement.

Even if Dermott's value hovers between a late 2nd and a 3rd, Leafs wouldn't and shouldn't trade him for that

The Strome trade was the only beauty from this. Trouba isnt going anywhere, Rangers managements knows what he can do and they're keeping him. Plus we dont need the pieces we'd get from Dallas, Lemiuex and DiGiuseppe are solid LW pieces. no need for Dermott, we have Lindgren as our second pairing guy and then one more year of Staal. After that Miller or one of our many LD prospects will come up. No need for TVR since Trouba stays. Could see the team CBO'ing Smith but i dont think they do that to Hank

lol disagree with this pretty heavily but that's cool. (There's a reason the Rangers staggered the NMC on Trouba's deal). You're welcome to your opinion. But the value is correct.

How do you figure? Toronto has 17 players signed for 2020-2021 for an aggregate of $77 million. Moving one of Kapanen, Kerfoot or Johnsson will give them at least $7.5 million to fill in the 7 open roster slots. That's plenty of cap space.

I don't understand these Dermot trades. He's an NHLer and doesn't cost much. No way he should just given away.

Well the value is definitely correct, and if i were the rangers i'd move trouba myself, but for some reason i have alot of trouble seeing them move him

I get what you’re saying and there is some validity to that but even then Trouba at $8M w/a kicked in NMC is a poor fit because 1) what do you end paying Heiskanen or Klingberg 2) you could sign say Tyson Barrie for less term and less money 3) it doesn’t change the fact Dallas even w/a full 82 games was going to have 1 ONE player score more than 50 pts have none score 60 or that because of their utter lack of scoring they blew a chance to beat St.Louis in the playoffs last year.
But hey I’m not a fan of either team.

Miro can play RD.

This trade wouldn’t happen with Dallas for a few reasons.
1. Seattle draft means we would be losing either Lindell, Trouba, or another pick just to keep the two.
2. We need youth up front.
3. We need the draft picks.
4. In two years, the cap hit for Klingberg, Lindell, Miro, and Trouba would be way too high.

I’m sure there are more reasons, but that should be enough. It’s not like we wouldn’t want him, it’s just that it isn’t realistic.

Sure to answer your questions:
1) Heiskanen most likely gets the classic Lindholm/Reilly contract (as top 10 picks who performed well early they're good comps) which is a 6 year deal at 7% cap hit. That puts him at 5.7 mil - Basically the Lindell contract.
Klingberg is more interesting, I think he prob gets around 8-9 mil if he likes Dallas.

2) Not really.... EW (who is basically never wrong with this stuff) has Barrie making an AAV of at least 7 mil on any contract of 4 years or more. Right now the estimated contract is 7 years worth 7.35 mil. Though let's say everything goes right and you can get it done for 5 years. You'd be paying for Barrie's 29 though 34 year old seasons because you thought it was a wiser option than paying less than an ELC more for Trouba's 26-31 year old seasons.... I'd rather go for the more 2 way player in his prime.

3) Right, I think most of that is due to the lack of puck handling dmen on the team. Exiting the zone with puck control is the biggest factor in generating goals and Dallas is...not good at that. This trade changes a lot of that.
