Does anybody know anything more about the apparently abortive Mikhail Grigorenko signing by Columbus? Specifically, (1) what went wrong, and (2) where does it stand now?

Jarmo K made a press statement that sounded like he was pretty proud of it, but we haven't heard anything more (to my knowledge).

Was rejected by the league simply because it can't be signed until May 1st. The BJ and Grigorenko both said it will be confirmed on May 1st.

July 1st only applies to NHL free agents. Grigorenko played in the KHL last year so it's different. He's eligible to sign in North America on May 1st (KHL season ends)

That would be if he didnt play in the NHL. Since he has prior NHL experience he is listed as a free agent. he cannot be signed until July 1. The deal violated 50.8(d) of collective bargaining agreement.
