31 in 31 Why Ristolainen to Winnipeg will never happen Read Description

Description
Ristolainen to Winnipeg is one of the most frequented proposals on here, and as a Buffalo fan, i'm going to debunk that immediately.

They do have a good young core with Schieferle, Elhers, Connor, Laine, and are led by Wheeler. But a lot of key peices are gone from their 114 point team two years ago like: Byfuglien, Myers, Trouba, Tanev, Armia, Enstrom, Statsny, etc......

Winnipeg is in transition right now, and while they have a good young core, this is a team that needs to keep young players and prospects such as Roslovic, Vesalainen, Samberg, and Niku. They also need to keep all their firsts. They are retooling and are not in a position to trade them to make a run right now.

Right now, Winnipeg would much rather sign Manitoba product Travis Hamonic and re-sign Dylan DeMelo in the offseason than trade assets for Rasmus Ristolainen.

Apparently there was a deal in principle that fell apart over the summer that would make us all cry if certain people are to be believed on Twitter.

That dream has died though.

Agreed.

I also don't think that WIN needs someone who plays the game like Risto does. They already have d-men like Morrissey and Pionk who are perfectly capable of putting up very good offensive numbers and Heinola and Samberg and coming soon so...

He may be referencing what I heard of a potential Ehlers/Risto centered deal but who really knows if that was true.

Either way this post is probably right. I’m thinking buffalo will rather trade Montour and keep Risto at this point

IT may have been talked about and explored by Winnipeg, however, I suspect what happened was someone from the Jets front office who's into analytics probably looked at it and said, "you're crazy for trading Elhers for Ristolainen". Ironically there was a similar proposition that fell through with Calgary a couple years ago when their Analytics guy said Brian Burke was crazy to trade for him, so they passed on Buffalo's ask
