No, sorry if I was unclear. I'm an Anaheim fan, so that's who "we" refers to. Anaheim sends Rakell to Colorado for Zadorov, Hellesen and the Avalanche 2020 first (fat chance), and then Anaheim turns around and sends Zadorov on to Florida for MacKenzie Weegar and a third or fourth. Colorado ends up with a better player than they'd likely get at #29 (David Pastrnak notwithstanding) -- and who will step in immediately -- for two years and one who's likely to renew with a Cup-contending team, which Anaheim won't be for a couple of years. Florida gets an upgrade from MacKenzie Weegar to Nikita Zadorov. And the Ducks get another very late first-round pick that they might be able to package with their own second or the Boston first to move up to the Islanders' first rounder.
The chance of that parlay coming home is the same as my winning the Kentucky Derby exacta.
Thanks for clarifying. Just for clarity I spelled it out:
Anaheim gets: Weegar, Helleson (#47 2019), 2020 1st (#29), FL 3rd/4th
Anaheim loses: Rakell
Colorado gets: Rakell
Colorado loses: Zadorov, Helleson, and 2020 1st (#29)
Florida gets: Zadorov
Florida loses: Weegar, 3rd/4th
I think from Colorado and Florida's perspective it's a pretty easy trade to make. Though the package has good assets, Colorado would't really be giving up a key piece they were planning on using on their roster anytime soon. Zadorov is getting traded for futures regardless; and Helleson and the 1st are both a few years away. Helleson is currently only Colorado's 3rd best D prospect (behind Byram, Timmins, and arguably even Zhuravlyov), so they wouldn't be giving up much.
From Anaheim's perspective I don't think they are getting the key piece, or top prospect that they could get. Instead of this trade I think they'd rather use Rakell to pick up ONE really high-end prospect (or a higher 1st rounder than #29), rather than diluting the return by mixing a middling RHD like Weegar and mid-round pick into the return and settling for a former 2nd round pick instead of a 1st round level prospect.
