Trade Targets

Description
Options on who NJD should target this off-season. If you have any other players you want to throw in the mix go for it in the replies. If you’re just going to say “______ would never” or something along those lines just keep scrolling. Looking for some good back and forth insight between fans of other teams and who they’d want in return for their guys.

Defense:
1. Vince Dunn/Mikhail Sergachev
3. Devon Toews
4. Jake Gardiner
5. Matt Grzelcyk
All of these guys are LD because that’s where the need on the backend is most needed. Also, I really want the Devils to land Dylan Demelo in free agency to sure up the right side. I’d rather this than overpay on $ or term for Dillon/Edmundson.

Forward: (No real order)
Alex Tuch
Josh Anderson
Andreas Johnsson
Kasperi Kapanen
Jesse Puljujärvi
Artturi Lehkonen
I don’t want to spend on any of the higher end free agents available. They won’t fit age-wise into the window when we’re ready to compete. Willing to take a listen on many other forwards to trade for. This isn’t a deep list above, just middle-six forwards I think will be reasonably priced.

Assuming cap stays the same after this Covid-19 fiasco, so that should strap some teams even more-so than expected.

I do think he will make the jump. I’m hoping he slides into the 3rd pair next to Demelo, who I feel could be a great fit to introduce Ty to the league

Feel like DeMelo is going to be about 1M higher then that WPG is going to want to keep him

butcher is pretty underrated, he deserves a bigger role IMO. You can probably get Gardiner for cheap, he has not been good this season. I don't think signing Dillon would be a bad idea either, as long as the term is no longer than 4 years. He's a very good even strength defender, I feel like he'd be a good fit.

I don't think NJD would give up what it would take to acquire toews/dunn/sergachev

WPG should do what it takes to keep him. He’s a nice fit next to Morrisey to replace what they had with Trouba. Just hopeful he gets to the open market

I agree Butcher should get a bigger role. I think he slides into the 2nd pair ideally this year, or at least should get a look there. I could see them going after Dillon just skeptical of the deal he’ll get and if you look at his player-type aging curve falls off around this time.

I’m not sure they would give up the assets to get the first three either, but that’s who I’d be hopeful for.

I would overpay Dillon on AAV to keep the term down. Maybe something like 4.5 x 3. I think that's fine for his age 30, 31, 32 years.

I think Johnson and Andersson would be solid buy low candidates for NJ. Both are worth a 2nd rd pick at best. I think anderson would be a good fit on Hughes wing.

You can go ahead and scratch Dunn off your list. That's not happening.

100% agree. DeMelo in a bottom 4 role to help Smith is something I’ve been thinking for a while. Dunn or Toews would be fantastic, and I honestly wouldn’t mind paying Dillon.

I think this deal is perfect. With the team NH is putting on the ice now, they will have to overpay guys to play there. They have plenty of cap to do it, and I believe Dillon will be very serviceable the length of that contract.
Malloy liked this.

Likely not, but if they have any plan to re-sign Petro something has to give

But they should! They are on a unique situation with cap and multiple firsts.
Serg, as I have said all throughout this board, is the guy I want. Our pick at 10 OA and add. Take on a contract as well.

True, but that something sure as hell won't be Dunn.
