Leafs decline. That does not move the needle enough.

Why does everybody think that there will be a guaranteed CBO? There has been no indication one will be included.

Very hard pass tbh. I really like nils and think he is underrated but we really need a more nhl ready defenseman

It's much easier to make a fantasy roster if you can make 8.5m cap just disappear.

Agree with your Nylander comment. Though the offer might be fair, Leafs would want immediate help for Nylander...more like DeAngelo as a base of a trade.

The meat of the deal is essentially Buchnevich and our own 1st rounder. That is just not enough of a return for a top pairing player like Nylander IMO. Nylander's value has gone up dramatically and his term and salary are very desirable for the offence and skillset that he provides.

I think that the only way that the Leafs entertain trading WN is if the return is a legitimate top pairing RHD with term and manageable AAV. Just my thoughts anyways.

The meat of this deal is you are getting our 2nd best prospect, if not our 1st. This deal is incredibly fair, with that being said though I don't think the Leafs deal Nylander. Like you have stated above, the value on Nylander's deal has gone up since he has produced.

Still think the offer is fair though.

Oh I never said anything about it not being fair. Just that it doesn't make sense from a Leafs perspective because it does not address their greatest need.

I suppose it could be argued that any pieces coming back in a deal like that could be used to acquire what they really need, but that is just more moving parts to an already uncertain future.

I get where you are coming from completely. I just don't think that the Leafs would be onboard. They seem to value their high priced fly-boys to the degree that something like this never transpires.

If MTL would be interested in Strome, what asset would interest you?

And would taking Staal make it cheaper?

We don't dump contracts it seems like to me. From MTL I'd look at your 2nd rounders? CHI and STL? or maybe Poehling?

Interresting, the fact that he is right-handed makes him more interesting for the habs who have a surplus of LW or Left-handed centers.
