You don't know that considering this revisionist history.

You can get rid of Dahlin, because we wouldn't have been drafting anywhere near 1st

No way would Detroit move Mantha for Ristolainen, Mantha will be signed long term and Risto only has 2 more seasons left take more then just Risto for Mantha need at least a 2nd included or a pretty decent prospect on top of it.

You realize this is a hypothetical redraft roster. It's not trading Risto for Mantha, it's drafting Mantha instead of Risto.

I love that the unrealistic hypothetical premise here is "Let's pretend the Sabres have a competent front office"

It is always fun to speculate after the fact, but let's be a little more realistic. Just take the players taken directly after Nylander and Reinhart then you get Mikhail Sergachev and Leon Draisaitl. So out of 3 drafts Murray got the best player available once. Regardless, it is hard to believe but the team was worse after 3 years of Murray than it was when he took over the team.
Can you imagine Eichel and Draisaitl as your top 2 centers?
Let's keep Ristolainen and swap out Zadorov for Anthony Mantha, TBH I think Ristolainen (0.46 pts/gm) may have as much value as Mantha (0.66 pt/gm) at this point.
Let's keep imagining, and keep Myers over Bogosian.
Of course then as @littlejerryseinfeld says, you do not have Dahlin. It is always nice to dream, but we still need a top GK and a top RW, but that would be a really good team.

Pastrnak was drafted in the 20s....this is not a what could have been bc he wasn't ranked a top 5 prospect like Reinhart

but if you swap out Zadorov for Mantha...you dont have ROR or else Mantha is heading to the Avs in that trade

Please read my post, who are the centers?
I know I do not sign ROR, I would rather have Draisaitl.

you make no mention of not doing the ROR trade which this roster has listed
Saying your top 2 Cs in Eichel and Draisaitl doesnt give any indication you are not doing the Avs trade

OK fair enough, you are correct.
I guess I would rather have Ristolainen and Draisaitl instead of O'Really and Mantha as well the draft picks that were given up to get Kane, O'Really and Lehner, but considering how poorly Murray drafted, maybe that is why he gave up essentially 3 first round picks for them.

dont disagree with you there, just didnt have our thoughts aligned, no worries
Yeah buffalo tore down and gained all that draft capital, and went crazy making win now trades. Didnt really seem like they knew what kind of team they wanted to build and just got guys who were available hoping for best.

OMW, that is exactly what my son said! He said it a little more harshly, Murray traded for the trash the Avs, Jets and Sens wanted to unload. While the value for each (except for Lehner) was reasonably fair, the team had no chemistry and could not make a loser into a winner. Every team they went to had recent playoff experience and they did not mess up their new teams winning attitude.
I think most NHL owners know that Murray totally messed up the rebuild. Three years after being released and he is not offered a job in any capacity by any club. Even Ruff found a job as a PK coach with the Rangers.

IDK when this team will win. Back to back seasons the team has great 10 game streaks, then they implode.
Botterill picks up a speedy young center and a hard hitting RW at the TDL and the team loses 6 in a row.
I think the Sabres have 4 good top 6 players, then the talent drops off.
Eichel has demonstrated that he is a top center, then there is nothing to back him up.
Johansson looked good at first then bombed.
Rodrigues was never given a chance to perform.
Kruger gets the team off to a great start but Skinner fizzes. IMO Kruger did not utilize the talent he had and was not always on the same page as Botterill. I am not in the locker room, nor in the front office, that is my opinion as a season ticket owner.

On to next year, let's try Reinhart at center. When he was drafted we were told he is a great passer, give him either Skinner or Olofsson to set up.
We are paying Okposo $6,000,000 a year, move him up to the top 6, give him a chance to earn his salary.
Give Vesey a one year contract and give him more quality ice time with either Jack or Sam.
At first the Johansson at center experiment looked good, but he would be better at LW.
I love Girgensons and Larsson, but if we need to pay them more than $1,800,000 for fourth line minutes, we need to move on from them.
Ullmark, IMO appears to be ready to take over the #1 role.
One of our RHD could be traded, but I am not sure if we will get the value for them.
I like Botterill, but I wonder what BriseBois offered him for Ristolainen back in 2019. I think Jason thought he was close to a deal and picked up Montour at bargain basement prices. I will be really upset if he was offered TJ Miller and turned it down. Any way, that is Tampa's luck. They get Shattenkirk for nothing and get a first for Miller.
Well that is my rant. This team is better than the one Botterill inherited, but it still cannot win.
