Flat cap 1 CBO 35-40 escrow

Created by: BCAPP
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 30, 2020
Published: Apr. 30, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Sounds like the NHL doesn't want to drop the cap. Power to them. However revenues are going to be crazy down. I can honestly see 50% of HRR being about 50 million.

The NHL is the most gate driven league of the big 4, losing ticket sales will be huge

So if they keep the current cap, players will just be getting 60-65% of their contracts

Are the escrow numbers really that bad? The players are going to be pissed.

I really don't think think Leafs are going to get Mikheyev for $1.5m. He was a good player in the KHL and then put up 23 points in 39 games.

Mikheyev is also in good terms with Dubas, as is his agent who he shares with Barabanov.he was very impressed wth Dubas after his injury, the injury that kept him out for part of the season. Chances are he’ll take a one year contract at a bit of a discount and go from there

I'm sure he'll take a bit of a discount but $1.5m seems really low to me.

1.5 for one year does not seem low to me at all. It actually seems appropriate given the injury situation and the term. Pretty much spot on IMO.

I’ve been going at it with about 1.7-1.8 range but 1.5 is pretty reasonable for Mikheyev

Players that put up 20-25 points over a full season routinely get around $2m. Mikheyev plays similar ice time and has similar rate of production as Johnsson and Kapanen and they both make $3m+. On top of all that Mikheyev is arbitration eligible or can just go back to playing in the KHL. I don't expect him to sign at $1.5m

If he goes to arbitration, he will not get a large raise in pay based on a limited sample size. There is just not enough data to justify it. If he wants more than 2+ million on a one year term, I hope they walk away. He isn't that valuable. Players like him are a dime a dozen.

If he opts for arbitration the Leafs can't walk away unless its something like $3m+ which won't happen

I like Mikheyev, no question. I don't like Mikheyev at a number that straps the team financially for what it is that he provides. Anything over 2 million dollars is an overpay IMO.

They have blown their wad on the top end of the lineup. The tertiary players need to be making far less money for this to balance.

You are correct. If there is a CBO the Isles will use it on Ladd, and probably pay a 2nd to a team to take Boychuck and CBO him

Normally, that might be true. After the type of injury that he suffered I am of the belief that he must show us that he has recovered physically and more importantly, mentally.

I only did that as I think the khl is likely to be as broke as the nhl

They need to CBO Ladd and boychuck. Figured Ladd's contract was the worse of the two to cbo

2 million for 20-25 points is a terrible idea. 20-25 points is replacement level and unless elite at something else should be under 900k

I figured the CBO was more expensive of Ladd so they get the other team (Leafs) to do it and they do boychuck.

But if Mikheyev plays 82 games at that rate he's getting 42 points. Those are pageau's numbers, and he just signed for 5mx 6 yrs. 2m seems fair to me
