Grzelcyk for Puljujarvi

Created by: kscoop
Team: 2020-21 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 30, 2020
Published: Apr. 30, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I believe Puljujarvi would benefit greatly from playing in Boston with the amount of leadership on the team. I also think a change of scenery would help him as he obviously lost his way in Edmonton and was rushed on a team that didn't have any structure. JP numbers in Finland were excellent and could be a wonderful fit as the Bruins 2nd or 3rd line RW. Grzelcyk would be a slight overpay but the Bruins have a LD ready to play in the NHL. Grzelcyk also expendable after Krug re-signs. Studnicka will also be incorporated in the lineup but I don't have him in there right now. He will play a lot of games on line 2/3 as injuries/performance of players arise.

Studnicka would be a more realistic target for Edmonton. They don't have need for another left-handed defender. Grzelcyk is a quality piece, but likely one that Edmonton ends up flipping for help up front. It makes more sense for the Oilers to cut out the middle man and simply acquire help up front.

Which LHD are you flipping in acquiring Grzelcyk?

Russell hardly counts at this point. I highly doubt he's going to be on the roster next season. I'm more concerned with the group of Klefbom, Nurse, and Jones.

Value wise it's not bad, but I just can't see Edmonton trading Puljujarvi for a 3rd pair LD given their depth there.

Be prepared for an onslaught of bruins fans.

Grzelcyk is their version of Kapanen (he'd be a hall of famer if not for all the heroes we have at his position ahead of him).

That being said, I don't think boston does this trade.

I would think Grzelcyk slides into Edmonton's top 4. Depth is also a great problem to have. Maybe Oilers deal someone else?

I don't think anyone is giving up a prospect of Studnicka's caliber for Puljujarvi. Studnicka is the likely successor to David Krejci, I can't see them moving him.

I'm a Bruins fan and believe Grzelcyk is a solid 2nd pairing dman. He can play in all situations and is a tremendous skater with a very high hockey IQ.

I would think Nurse gets flipped in this scenario? Unless a verbal agreement to an extension can be had where he remains an Oiler for life, and they use Klefbom to fetch a far greater return? It's a lot of whimsical hand-waving, because I don't know which defender the organization values more or how much more Grzelcyk has to offer.

And it's not like Edmonton's flipping one of their better non-roster trade assets for additional surplus at the one position they don't need it.

There isn't a single Bruins fan on here that has said Grz would be a HOF lol. We've all said he'd be a top 4 d-man if not for having Chara and Krug in front of him. If Krug walks in FA, guess whose sliding to the 2nd pairing LHD? its Grz. So really the comments by Bruins fans isn't outlandish.

I dunno about this one. I like the idea of giving Puljujarvi a shot at another team and getting a roster player back. But the Oilers already have too many great LHD. Klefbom and Nurse are pretty much locks for 1 and 2LHD. Kris Russell is a fantastic veteran LHD and he's relegated to 3LHD, blocking Caleb Jones and Lagesson from moving into a roster spot. Throw in Broberg and Samorukov in the next 2-3 years and it is starting to look like a logjam.

Awesome contracts. Near perfect lines.

While I do not think that this trade happens: the idea definitely makes sense considering the depth the bruins have, and that Urho will be ready when Chara retires.
And while I personally dont think that trade will happen, it is good value wise and need wise, so

Overall: Very Good ACGM!

I don't think a 2nd Round Pick is necessary. I'll do the third sure, but I struggle to understand how you justify that price when Studnicka has barely played NHL games. Even if you compare their AHL ppg, a 2nd Round Pick is a far cry from reasonable.

I struggle to justify giving up a top prospect with #2C upside for a kid that fled the NHL because he couldn't make it on an average Edmonton team. Funny thing is Studnicka was picked using the comp pick that Boston was awarded for...wait for it....Edmonton signing Chia to be their GM tears of joy

I agree, we should flip Nurse for a winger. I believe he is not going to want to stay in Edmonton and I don’t want to see what his next contract will look like after his extension is done.

hes going to threaten to walk unless you flip him and no team will offer anything significant.

Not to mention the need to create $3M or so in cap space to fit him in... he'd be an upgrade on Jones but 3x or 4x the price.
