he said money would not be an issue if he wanted to play for a cup contending team like toronto cause at this point he wants to try and win a cup. And he actually almost came at the deadline but san joses gm never inquired further if he was serious about moving cause man thorton sounded disappointed about not being moved for a chance at a cup.

i see thorton probs going to the sharks and if they fail to impress again this time the gm will move him. And by febuary or march he may become a leaf, bruin, lightning, etc. still if the gm had his best interest in mind for a cup he may have ended up on a cup contending team like the leafs who knows.

However, Leafs aren't a cup contending team with Holl as your first line RHD. Leafs need to upgrade defense as everyone knows before they are serious contenders with at least a top 3 if not top 2 guy.

Not at all true. Jumbo listed the teams he wanted to be moved too and none inquired. He then stated his plan is to return to the sharks for next year

And 7th in their conference and a fat chance of the Leafs beating at least 4 of those teams ahead of them if not all 6.

Holl is fine when he plays with Muzzin. Both of them have produced good defensive numbers. All the leafs need is a solid partner for Rielly and they will be fine.

A top 2 or 3 guy...meaning picking up someone who is 2nd to reilly or 3rd behind reilly and muzzin in skill. How they pair them to offset weakness with guys like Holl (or others in the lineup) is a different story.

conference does not matter its division that matters. Rn leafs will probs face tampa and it can go either way. Cause if the leafs play like they did against tampa the last 2 games they will move to round 2 as in the playoffs anything can happen.

In general once ceci and barrie are gone the leafs defense will be significantly improved even with Holl on the roster. In general Muzzin has been a perfect mentor to Holl and the pairing is working so Keefe will probs stick with it. As for Rielly whoever he is paired with may not be as skillful as him but if he plays a better defensive game who cares. In general players like Rielly and Muzzin will be the backbone of the leafs defense so if their partners are not as skilled as them who cares. If they produce good defensive numbers and keep the dangerous chances to a minimum then its fine.

Conference does matter if you are a true cup contender meaning, you have to beat the best in the conference to get to the finals. Regarding the Leafs beating Tampa in the regular season, the playoffs as we know is a different game and highly doubt the Leafs have an easy time IF (big if) they get past Tampa, and if they do, then they likely face Boston and there is no way the Leafs can get past boston. Again, anything can happen and playoff hockey is very different as Leafs fans have experienced the last 3 years despite being dominant at times in the regular season during those 3 years. In the playoffs, defense and goaltending mean a lot more then in the regular season.

I dont even see the oilers making it there. With questionable goaltending, r2 maybe. I see either Colorado or the Blues making it and for their opponents Penguins or Philadelphia.

Tampa in the playoffs is even more unpredictable than they are in the regular season. They can go from making it to the finals one year to getting knocked out in R1 after a 62 win season the following year. In general Babcock philosophy was mainly the reason they didnt get past r1 of the playoffs in the 2 meetings with boston in the playoffs including his final year. Playing 1 legged hyman over matthews was a red flag in itself. Dubas did the right thing and got rid of him bringing keefe in and from there a massive improvement especially with matthews. In general if the leafs were coached by keefe last year they would have went to round 2 as keefe would have had matthews much more on the ice and playing with Marner. Then again its the playoffs anything can happen. Overall I will say this, the leafs would have passed boston in 2019 playoffs if babcock had more faith in matthews, but instead he chose to put an injured hyman out more than matthews which is the main reason I am glad he is gone.

YUp that is whats delusional. The Oilers or the Leafs getting past the 1st round. Leafs with god aweful D and the oilers with no 3rd line and no wingers for McDavid

If the leafs face tampa and they play like they did against them in the regular season I could see it going either way as Tampa in the playoffs is the most inconsistent team next to Boston and Washington. As for Edmonton if the playoffs start now we be getting the battle of alberta. And man thats a series I am gonna be watching as again it could go either way. In general with keefe at the helm their chances are better than they were with predictable lets not play matthews for more than 10mins babcock

Which is exactly why the Leafs need a top 3 skill player who plays a defensive game. Holl is not that. You don't take a offensive team like the Leafs that are defensively weak and ride offensive defenseman into a cup, you have to balance both ends of the ice.
