Super risky to trade that first but I do think Nuge would be a good pickup. Think wed need an extension to do that

Thats cute, I feel like a Toronto fan saying this but:
There’s no way you’d get Nuge for that little and If you did I would riot

They might have a helluva time holding onto him next year, so I predict he's a rental by 2 weeks before the pre-season. And I basically dropped the EK65 offer without all the prospects... I'm sure any trade has a bit of spice added, and I think they'd accept.

Is Edmonton rebuilding again? Why would they trade Nuge for picks?

His expiring contract actually works well for Edmonton, since they don't necessarily have to protect him in the Seattle expansion draft. A handshake deal can be worked out and announced as soon as the expansion draft is concluded and the window opens to sign UFAs.

If (and that is a very suspect "if") Holland were to consider trading Nuge, a deal isn't going to happen unless it improves the Oilers immediately. I just don't see another GM paying the appropriate asking price.

Meh... it's just an exercise. But, next year he will be looking for a raise, and if EDM isn't in a position to give him one then he'll likely be traded as a high-value rental.

They shouldn't have a problem re-signing him. But even if they can't, there's 2 problems with your scenario: Edmonton is a playoff team and San Jose isn't. Why would a playoff team trade away their 3rd best player at the deadline? Why would a non-playoff team spent high picks acquiring a high-value rental?

Perhaps you're right, but you're wrong about one thing: San Jose is a Playoff team, just not this year.

SJ has been to 14 of the last 15 Playoffs, and the last time they missed the Playoffs they went to the SC Final the year after. One bad year does not make a team bad. Fans of other teams may think this is it for them, like they've been waiting their whole lives for this moment, but the players and the NHL know the facts, which is why SJ has a pretty great history of attracting talent.

They won't get back into the playoffs without a serious upgrade in net. I mean an upgrade on Jones, not Dell. I'm not sure that you've upgraded that position enough, to be honest. Allen is inconsistent and isn't good when given too high a workload, which he would have to be if platooning with Jones.

He will be looking for a raise but it won’t be for anything more than 7.5 probably. 1.5 million dollar raise is something the Oilers would be happy to pay Nuge

Yes, chances are he stays if he's not traded, fer sure. But, I've also known A LOT of Canadians who were all to happy too leave Canada for an opportunity in California.

The experiment has proven that when Jones' workload is reduced he's still capable of shutouts. In the case of Allen, if he can sub as a 1B for 35-40 games then Jones will only have to play 42-47 games.
Jones also has a proven record in the Playoffs, even when he's having a down year, so I ain't worried about him there.

I'd opt for Raanta instead, but I'm worried about his injury history. I'd also be open to getting Murray.

I like Khudobin and Halak too, but I don't think they're gonna leave Dallas/Boston if they can help it.

Furthermore, the Oilers are my second team, so I wouldn't be heartbroken if he stays. The only move that broke my heart was Kass re-signing in Edmonton; I wanted him on the Sharks.

Nuge would be a great player for this team. Would allow to Meier-Cooch-Hertl line to regroup and that line dominates.

Bottom six scares me a tad but you could find guys that work.

Switch our second for the col second and I think they would be interested. Maybe throw in chek to sweeten the pot
