40 percent at 1 means 60 percent at two for Detroit. By those number 1*3 is most likely

Not how math works. If Detroit's odds of getting 1st overall is 48.2%, Ottawa's odds of drafting 2nd+3rd is also 48.2%, which is higher than their 33% of drafting 1st+3rd.

But if it’s 48 percent at 1 that means 52 percent of them getting 2.

But that doesn't mean Ottawa's best odds are 1st+3rd.

You do know if there's an early draft New Jersey has no chance of a to 3 finish right? It's basically Detroit, Ottawa 2 LA and Anaheim in the top spots on the 5 bottom teams have a chance to win LAFF and finish in the top 5 New Jersey is too far down the chain for a top 3 spot.

It's 48.2% chance of the 1st overall for Detroit so it's basically 51.8% chance of getting #2 overall do the math Detroit has just as much chance at #1 as they do for #2.

New Jersey is 6th right now, most they can jump up to is 4 spots which would be to 2nd. Any team can move up 4 at most or go down 1 or stay the same.

Yeah that's true, For some reason i'm just think of the bottom 5 teams but New Jersey could go up to #2 in this scenario if Detroit gets the #1 pick.

https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/nhl-daly-state-case-early-june-draft-memo-sent-teams/
Read the article. I consider it a possibility as the commissioner office strongly wants it to happen and Bill Daly wrote a memo to teams laying out the advantages. I strongly believe that it will happen considering the source and reported author of the memo. Once again, I have not said it will happen and said right now, it is just a theory. I said if the proposal happens. Based on what the article says, it says this year is unique and NHL wants to fill the gap between now and a maybe resumption in the summer and a draft would do that. To avoid the chance of a team winning both the lottery and the cup, they suggested a proposal for just this year of all teams only being able to move up to 4 spots and down at most 1. In this case, habs will be 4,5,6,7,8 or 9 depending on how the lottery happens. I understand that this is not what you want as you probably like most habs fans want number 1 and that this proposal would not be viewed favourably by most fanbases. But considering who wrote the memo, I believe that it will happen.

Just realized something. Habs can only get 4,8,9. https://www.tsn.ca/how-revised-nhl-draft-odds-would-impact-lottery-teams-1.1472507
