I saw this trade yesterday.

To all the Leafs fans out there saying that «NyLaNdEr Is A gReAt FoRwArD aNd ToRoNtO dOeSn'T nEeD wEbEr»...

Weber is an elite shutdown d-men. The guy literally is in the top 10-15 of the best shutdown d-men of all time. That's what you get in him. So yeah, all the troubles TOR has had in the past few years with defending a lead would SEVERELY decrease with Weber around.

And you might also point out that Nylander is a great passer and you'd be right... but so is Domi.

Domi playing with Matthews and Kappy would be very good as a line and would allow JT, Hyman and Marner to be put back together as they did so great in 18-19.

  1. Dermott, Travis [RFA Rights]
  2. Nylander, William
Additional Details:
As I already said, I saw that trade yestrday. That being said I reall don't see MTL doing that, it's just a random idea being thrown in there.

You better hope Weber keeps playing at an elite level if you want to give let up Nylander for him.

That's what I hear all the time but I don't agree.

1-Weber's speed has never been his srength. So even when he ages, it won't hurt him because he's learned to be elite without it.
2-the retention on Weber would make him an absolute bargain for the next 2 seasons. He'd be worth round 6 mil at 37 year old, would be worth around 5 mil at 38 and 39 and would be worth 4 mil at 40

EDM can be any team that needs a starting goalie really. I just used them as an example. Sorry forgot to add that in the trade details

Item #1...I would have agreed with you a few years ago because Seabrook was never a very fast guy to begin with, but he still got slower and the other arguably more important part is...the league is only getting faster.

No Sebs' contract was bad from the moment he signed it. Plus don't forget that Seabrook was never a Weber-like player. He's never been as good as him, never had an impact like Weber has in the locker room and has never been a true elite d-man. He was the perfect partner for Keith but not elite.

I'd take Weber at 36 (in 2 years) over Seabrook at 29

I was just talking about the style of play. Not really the contract. Weber is definitely a better player, but Seabrook was elite in his prime too. It's just a cautionary tale. I'm not saying you're wrong. Every player is different.

These are two great points - my concerns with Weber would be injuries (he's had a lot) and what would happen if he retires. He isn't going to play the rest of his contract so the last three or four years could be a huge problem

The injuries he has had over the past few years are very common sport injuries. Playees recover from them. Look at Markov who recovered from two awful knee(I think) iinjuries and continued to play elite hockey until 2016. Weber will do that, mark my words. And If I'm proven wrong over the next few seasons, I'll admit I was wrong.

Value is there but from HABS point of view this is abyssal for their D-Corp. Such a lead loss can tremor for years (remember Markov ...) So no this time HABS need to stick with him. Maybe and Maybe next year or at TDL .... But with Bergevin in place 1st D is Weber 1st G is Price 1st C is Danault «------- The kids need to overthrow each of them in the next 2 years or so. Or could it be the same for Price and Weber to prove themselves in MTL?? Perhaps we will know when everything will resume.

Question about Dermott : is he a proven top 4 already (is he playing 200 game and pk?)?

Dermott has had a very good and underrated 19-20 season.Of course he was relied heavily uppon when both Reilly and Muzzin were injured but I'd expect him to be a number 4 next year

If weber were to play at the level he is now for the duration of his contract, I wouldn't hesitate, but the issue is that he's 34 and when he declines, or is injured as he has been in the past, that contract is not gonna be pretty. So for that reason, I'd rather not give up 24 year old Nylander, but if weber was a bit more of a sure bet, this would be a no brainer

We are much closer in the ball park of a Kapanen Dermott for Petry Domi. Am I wrong?

I'd be interested solely because of Domi just because we don't need an offensive defenceman
