Description
No way around it, trading one of our big four for a prospect/pick kind of sucks. It ultimately feels like a step in the wrong direction. However I don't think Toronto's cap situation is sustainable and gutting the bottom six and/or trading Nylander for a young stud defenseman is going to create more holes up front and won't fix the underlying cap problem. I also am skeptical that Toronto is going to be able to get much for johnsson/kerfoot/kapanen and conversely I don't see them getting sufficient value for Nylander if trading him for a Dman.

LA deal:
Trading Nylander for a high draft pick obviously adds a nice prospect to a pretty bare cupboard but also creates so much flexibility in terms of how Dubas can build the rest of the lineup.

TB:
Cernak > Liljgren but this gives tampa space to re-sign both Cirelli and Sergachev while adding a pretty nice close-to-nhl-ready D prospect.

NYR:
Not quite sure what andersson's value is and how much patience the Rangers have in him

UFAs:
Koivu most likely stays with Minnesota but he'd be a great fit on Toronto in my opinion. Great defensive center, and better skater than Spezza. Leafs could play him and andersson as a 3C tandem.

Would like to hear thoughts on granlund as a buy low candidate

Buddy Robinson:
Do not know anything about this player just that he has a phenomenal hockey name. Assuming he leaves it all out on the ice and answers the bell every time

In a very deep draft i doubt any team gives up a top 5 pick. LA isn't doing this.

Gauthier is a better NHLer than Andersson. Just keep Gauthier and trade Kerfoot for what you can if you need cap space..
Kings don't do that deal. That can keep their first..a 1million dollar player, and then spend 6m on a UFA instead of acquiring 4 years of Nylander.

Leaf posts have to be most bipolar of anything on CapFriendly. 45% have the Leaf players way over valued, 45% have other teams players (mostly RHD) way over valued, and about 10% about right.

Not sure why people still gave Cernak a 4 millions deal. We are talking about a defenseman who doesn’t have much offensive abilities, who have been use under 19 minutes and that my be a Mike Komisarek. All the partber that play with Hedman are looking good but without him he might nit be as prettier that is was in Tampa Bay!

Teams can’t just have ALL offensive minded D men.

It’s ok to have 1-2 guys that stick to defense And playing close to 20 minutes a game.

I agreed on that but generally those defenseman aren’t paid 4+ millions. Cernak have similar number with Zadorov not Pesce one. Pesce earn 4+ millions and have far more responsibility. I cannot see how a guy like Cernak could get more then that.

I’d compare him to a muzzin type player to be honest. Plus cernak is meaner/tougher IMO. He’s 22 years old he’s absolutely worth 4 million.

I absolutely HATED Lombardi for trading him to TB for Bishop!

He is totally not worth at the moment 4,5 millions. Nothing in is play deserves that much Salary. 4,6 is the salary Chychrun make and he is superior in any point. Cernak wont get more then 2,5 millions on a multiple year deal

I’d pay him 4 on a long term deal. 5 or 6 years.
