Would you do this without retention? You have the cap space.

Perhaps, but the Jets will need as much space as they can create for the Laine/Pionk raises that are scheduled for the summer of 2021

By far the most fair deal for Couture I’ve seen on ACGM. That said, Winnipeg would not be one of the teams on his three team trade list.

I could see him waiving it though, he seems like a pretty competitive guy that would want to play in the playoffs, which he might not see that happening in SJ

I seriously doubt he would waive for Winnipeg. A good team there yes but a lot of players don’t want to live in Winnipeg.

Don't really see it... seems to much to give up for a player a few years away from declining, giving the young core that wpg has maybe keeping bout 12 overall pick is the better choice. Would still be potential top 6 c available and Chevy is good at drafting think the jets window really starts to open in bout 4-5 years when the core is in their prime only wheeler would be gone and hopefully vesa ready by then like the trade but looking long term... ouch

We would still probably do it without retention but 1 million in retention would be a lot for 7 years. We would also add Colorado's 2020 2nd to take away the retention.

I don't think Roslovic will be the 2C we need for the cup. We want to win now while we have this core and before wheeler ages out. sure the draft pick might be a good 2C but why not just get an established one? I don't think vesalainen will be great in Winnipeg, there's no room for him in the top 9. Chevy is good at drafting but look at it this way

top 6 locked up: Scheif, Ehlers, Laine, Wheeler, Couture, Connor. Theres no room for anyone else.

This would be the last first we use towards getting a 2C.

No more renting 2Cs at the draft for firsts anymore. We would have the one we need.

I love this take. People love to **** on the city but it seems like players that play here like to sign long term? I don't see why couture who's from Ontario wouldn't want to play here.

I like the idea, just don't feel like its wpg's time.. with the trade the foward core is very deep don't see them being cup champs with how the defense looks helle played lights out all season otherwise the jets would be been close to a lottery team

But all the core dmen r under 26 plus samberg heinola coming in all it needs is time

That's why I said 4-5 years only one gone would be wheeler (and little) and the entire core would be more experienced and better

By that time Couture would be 35-36 while eating up 7 mill in cap while that could go to a future young c (potential 2020 draft pick) just entering his prime

But hey it's a good trade that really helps the jets and maybe gets them the cup before my scenario even shows up lol not a lot of sure things in hockey gotta be a good gambler XD

I’m not dissing Winnipeg personally. I actually enjoy Winnipeg the few times I have been there. But I have read in many articles it isn’t a destination that players chase after...sorry, don’t need to take it so personally man. Cooch has a three team trade list and I seriously doubt he’d waive it for Winnipeg.
