Super original Melnyk shot. Bravo. But more importantly, it's a horrible trade for Ottawa.

Makes way more sense for Ottawa to just take the two picks. 3rd is guaranteed to be one of Byfield or Stutzle, and there will still be another elite prospect available at 4th.

trust me I got nothing against the team but the owner is what I am concerned for. Like if they draft Laf or Byf how long will he keep them, will he actually extend them, or will he be a cheap owner and sell them after their elc's are up. In truth the one obstacle to ottawa's rebuild is Melnyk himself

23 yo elite 1C under contract for 7 more years with the cap to go up substantially with expansion and a new tv deal. If I’m OTT I seriously consider it, if I’m Buffalo I say no.

This honestly needs to stop, people who don't know anything about the Sens should do their research before being "concerned" about Ottawa's owner. Ottawa signed Chabot for 8 years, signed White for 6 years, Melnyk even overpaid for Ryan, giving him a contract of over $50 million, and Tkachuk and the rest of the young core will get signed.

As for this trade, it's bad, hard pass from Ottawa. I'll take Byfield and Stützle or maybe even Lafrenière and Byfield over Eichel, unless Buffalo considers adding in Dahlin, then there can be some kind of discussion from there, which Buffalo would never do. So this just falls apart, would not work for either team

That was similar to my thinking. The consensus here seems to be that Ottawa rejects, though.

I highly doubt that either Byfield or Laf, let alone both, fall out of the top 2.

Apparently Yzerman will take Stützle if Detroit is choosing at #2, so if Ottawa wins the lottery, they'll most likely take Lafrenière at 1 and Byfield at 3. Regardless, Laf and Stützle or Rossi or Raymond would be great as well.

This is specifically if Ottawa's picks fall to 3 and 4 or later. I'm also not super convinced with that whole 'Yzerman might take Stutzle number 1' thing.

Ahhh my bad, and I don't think Yzerman takes him #1, but I think he'll take him at #2.

I think it's definitely a possibility, but when that Yzerman/Stutzle stuff was fresh I was kind off doubtful of its validity. It's all trivial anyways as this will obviously never happen, I was just curious if people would prefer 2 potential high end wingers (or 1 winger 1 Dman) or an already established high end center.

Makes sense, I think for me, as a Sens fan, we've traded for "established" centres like Brassard and Duchene, and Ottawa became worse because of those trades. We know that Ottawa's strengths lie in drafting great players, and with Ottawa being able to draft even for 2nd overall for the first time since they got Spezza, Sens fans would rather see management stick to the plan and get their strong players from the draft. They'll be stronger that way.

Fair, though I think we can both agree that there is quite a difference between Brassard/Duchene and Eichel. But I totally understand the desire to stick to the course.

touchy about Melnyk . I don't know why. I'm pretty sure the whole OTT fan base hates him at this point.

Yeah they're definitely different, but yeah, as you said, the point is to stick to the course.

I don't hate him, and a lot of other Sens fans I know don't hate him either, though some also really don't like him. He has done a lot of good for the team but people forget that and look at the medias attacks against him only to fuel their hate. Yes he has done terrible things in the past, like threatening to move the team to another city, but that's him being passionate about the team and letting his passion get the best of him.

If I'm Ottawa I say yes: Sure you could get a McDavid and a Marner but you could also get a Yak and a G Reinhart. I wouldn't risk it as Buffalo.

Oh, I do hate Melnyk, but I was replying to a Leaf fan who suggested the trade wouldn't happen because Melnyk was too cheap while completely ignoring that it's a brutally bad trade.

Would I have kept Mark Stone? Yes. Most of the other moves I can't argue with. I was onboard with the EK trade from day one; even before the 1st rounder was a top 5 pick. Is Melnyk an ass, YES, but he payed Chabot and he'll pay Tkachuk. To be blunt, it's not like Dubas throwing money around like confetti has gotten the Leafs very far.
