Both teams reject....Gourde is proving to be an overpaid bottom six player and the Habs aren’t going to give you a 2nd round pick and clear all that cap space for you.

I think the Islanders reject because those players are on ELC’s and help them against the cap. I think Dobson has potential to be better than Sergachev in a few years so that alone makes it not worth it. It’s not going to be easy for Tampa and you’re sure not going to be adding good young prospects.

Isles say no, they simply cannot afford Sergachev which makes the trade a non-starter.

They also do not need LHD, although Sergachev may be better than what they have Isles are already paying Leddy, Pelech, Toews, Hickey and have Aho ready to move into the NHL.

Pelech is not a #5, he is a #3 playing #2 minutes because he balances the pairing with Pulock well.

Toews is a #5.

Lou's not dealing Dobson for Sergachev, If Sergachev goes anywhere i can definitely see Detroit being involved. Detroit will need LD help down the road. And with Yzerman being the old GM there i can definitely see Yzerman looking to his old team.

Toews is one of the most underrated defenseman in the league. He is playing with mayfield, who regressed this season.

They were bottom dman 2 years ago but like I said played like top4 dman the last 2 years, IMO thanks to the coach

That is such an ignorant statement. Pelech was the islanders best shot suppressor before trotz became head coach.

Toews was their top D prospect lighting up the AHL before trotz. If anything , trotz stifles offense, so the fact that toews drives play at an elite level is impressive.

I guess when Dobson becomes a top pairing D man it will all be because of trotz. It’s not like he won 2 memorial cups with 2 different teams...

Pelech’s 1st full season was in 17-18, one year before trotz. He played on the 2nd pairing and was the best defensive defenseman on an islanders team that gave up the most goals in the NHL. Next year trotz became HC and he moved up to the 1st pairing one month after the season started.

How can Devon toews be a top 4 Dman 2 years ago if he wasn’t in the NHL? toews isn’t a top pairing caliber Dman because of trotz, it’s because he’s a great defenseman.

My point is trotz has very little to do with why these defenseman are top pairing quality.
