Grubauer was traded for a 2nd and a cap dump...you think Murray is worth A good middle 6 forward and a 2nd pairing Dman? Yikes

Dan Kingerski, of Pittsburgh Hockey Now, reported that COL was in trade talks with PIT regarding one of Murray or Jarry. Said IF the deal was to be done, it would be completed at, or before, the draft. Now...that was before the pandemic.

Dan Kingerski is a no body and he is part of the Hockeynow network with Dater. He was using Dater who has 0 clue about the Avs rumour mill as a source.
Also he only made that low hanging fruit speculation connections bc Avs had goalie injuries at the deadline...shocker avs dont have hurt goalies anymore

Actual Avs insiders who have good connections with the team dispute at any sort of make goalie trade talk

Stars decline. Value is pretty fair, but they have no depth on the right side of their blue line as it is, and they have a surplus of strong two-way forwards. The decline the deal simply out of team need.

So the avs have grubauer and francouz locked up for at least another year, both of whom have better numbers than murray, and they just sign annunen who will be their future starter according to the experts... where would murray fit in?

Sure the Avs are willing to weaken the team to add a goalie while having Grubauer and Francouz signed long term with Annunen as a good prospect. Makes sense. Especially since Murray will demand a higher salary than the current goalies at the Avs, while not being better haha

so is Dater and he posts click bait rumour articles all the time that get shot down. Dan constantly sources Dater for his info. he loses trade talk credibility as soon as you source Dater

Murray doesn’t make any sense for the Avalanche moving forward, but I could believe that Sakic kicked tires on him in February. Grubauer went down “indefinitely” at the outdoor game on Feb. 15th. Sakic said publicly that they were looking for goaltending help to finish out the season. My guess is that Sakic saw Murray as a potential buy-low target. His playoff success is intriguing, especially if you could take some pressure off by platooning him with Francouz down the stretch. Best-case scenario - he lights it up in Colorado and you have a tough decision to make between extending Murray (RFA) or Francouz(UFA). Or you flip him over the summer to a team that needs a goalie and get back more than you gave up up, Marco Scandella style. Worst-case - he doesn’t play well and you trade him for less than you got him for, or you cut bait altogether.
For Pittsburgh, they are committed to Casey DeSmith as the backup for the next couple of years, and Jarry was playing well enough to be the starter. The incentive to move Murray at the deadline would be to free up cap space for another rental addition, and then to create space to resign Jarry over the summer and bring DeSmith to the NHL full time.
Obviously things fell apart somewhere, and the extension Francouz signed on February 21st should be a sign that Murray-to-Colorado is a dead concept.

they were looking for a start term 3rd goalie, not a new starter that is an RFA.
DNVR guys touched on this on their podcasts, they were not looking any big name goalies.

Jarry isn't going to make big money. People can stop that nonsense.
He's got 20 some games of solid play, but he had NHL experience prior that was not really all that impressive. 1 20 game span does not make you 4 million+ a year.

Skoi would be nice, never gonna happen.

I don’t disagree. The story is overblown and speculation of anything happening in the future is unrealistic. My point is that I wouldn’t be surprised at all if Sakic inquired in Murray, given his track record of crafty asset management and finding buy-low guys.

    Also, love the DNVR guys.

The only plausible scenario they would be looking at Murray would be they flipped Frankie before he signed his extension or they move on from Grubi is a goalie for goalie swap

I was wondering about that. Maybe a Francouz for Murray deal. Cap savings for Pitt, more proven goalie for Colorado. If that was the conversation, I’m glad nothing came about.

There could be a legit conversation about it this summary with a grubi Murray switch. Pens get the a higher end goalie on the cheaper this season, avs get Murray extended probably cheaper than what it would cost to extend grubi. Other than that sort of logic I don’t see the fit
