I honestly like these trades and signings except for SImmonds. He's proven over the past 2 years that he is washed up (or his mind isn't in it anymore). I'd rather Belzile to even Poehling play on the 4th line and invest that money somewhere else in the team.

Maybe, but Bergevin always liked him and Weal will probably play on that 4RW

I mean, a Price-greiss tandem would be insane, but Greiss likely wants to start around 40 games, and he won't do that in MTL. Elliott would be a better fit IMO

Considering Montreal still has 2.2 Million in cap space after all of this, they sign somebody better than Simmonds for around 3 Million.

It would definitely be possible for Greiss to start 25-30 games, it's probably not what he would want, but if it gave him a chance to win it all, why wouldn't he?

MTL isn't in a position to win. Not at all. They'd better trade one of Drouin or Domi or Tatar, move Petry if he can't be resigned and give opportunities to Fleury, Romanov, KK, Poehling and Suzuki

Greiss isn't going to Montreal to be Carey Prices backup, He'll want starter money and be a starter. He makes far more sense for Detroit then being a expensive backup with Montreal.

You might be right,
but if:
Tatar-Danault-Gallagher line can keep being one of the better lines in the league
Drouin stays healthy all year
Domi Rebounds
Suzuki builds on last year
Price returns to form
There's a chance

It's a lot of thing that have to fall into place, but it's not like any of them are unreasonable. Anything else we get is just a bonus.

To go with this, Montreal made the ECF with Price in his prime and 1/10th of the team in front of him.

Ok then Khudobin, no, ok then Smith, no ok then Talbot, come on you get it, just a decent back up. Stop saying no to literally EVERYONE we are signing

This is honestly a great year to be looking for a goalie, there are tons of options available. We could end up with our 3rd or 4th option and still end up with a good backup.

Greiss is 34, who is going to invest starter money in a goalie that old? He could maybe be part of a 1A/1B tandem but I think his days as a starting goalie are behind him.

Many teams. Vegas did it with resigning Fleury, a lot of teams invest into older goalies to be their starters.

Khudobin makes far more sense if he doesn't resign back with Dallas, Cam Talbot probably similar situation as Thomas Greiss.

Maybe but he's still pretty solid 34 year old with strong numbers with the Islanders. He could get starter money on say a 1-2 yr deal rather easily.

Don’t love 2 years for Griess, and I would rather Kovalchuk over Simmonds, but everything else looks good.

Trading Drouin, Domi, or Tatar makes no sense, unless we’re trading Domi for a winger. Fleury probably won’t get much better than he is right now, and it would be best to play him on the 3rd pairing. Similar thing for Poehling, he’s probably going to be a 3rd line centre. I don’t think that Montreal is as far away from winning as you think they are, but I definitely get why Greiss might not want to come here.

Vegas and Fleury was a unique situation, not a fair comparison imo.

Habs don't need Simmonds from 2020. They need the Simmonds from 6-7 years ago... the one who could skate AND be physical...

It's not hard to search this stuff up.

Craig Anderson with Ottawa
Niklas Backstrom with Minnesota
Martin Brodeur with NJ
Nikolaj Khabibulin with Edmonton
Tim Thomas with Boston

Of those goalies only Khabibulin was signing with a new team, teams are loyal so not sure the other four are fair comparisons, yeah I still don't see any team investing starting goalie money on Greiss, I think he gets around what's proposed here.

After the past two seasons Greiss is going to want more than a $200,000 salary increase. Probably takes 2yr $4,000,000

Luongo was already a Canuck.
Yeah Huet was kind of old to be signing to be a starter.
Bryz was 31 not 34.
Smith was already a Coyote.
Yeah Miller was old to be a starter.

So two out of 5, sure it's possible but who's the team this summer that's spending more then $3.75M for more then 2 years on Greiss? Sorry but if someone signs him at $4M for 2 years that's not really saying starting goalie deal to me.

Luongo wasn't already a Canuck, he was playing with Florida and signed with Vancouver.

These are guys signing 4 or 5 years as 30/31 YO's. It's comparable to signing a 34 YO starter to a 1 or 2 year deal.

It happens

Not sure what that last part is about, Minnesota only gave Dubnyk 4.3 Million to be their starter.
