Hutton, mccabe and johansson were over 11 million coming off the cap, add in an increased cap and losing someone in the expansion draft, I dont think you need to do much

Samuelsson is nowhere near ready for the NHL
And trading a top4 defenseman for a guy you’ll play on line4 is a waste
So I’d just make that bottom pair Pilut-Montour

And Tage can’t even play RW well in the NHL, let alone Center
That bottom line just isn’t good at all really

Haula is an interesting Center at the right price
    Hopefully he’d stay healthy
And Tuch could be a really interesting addition

Very small chance CBO happens, going to have to pay Seattle to take him. Miller is not a top pair dman, Roslovic should be a top 6 forward and wont like playing the 4th line, Cozens isnt ready for 2C either

What's dahlin get? He's obviously very talented, but he hasn't pulled away from several other young d prodigies. Bridge? 7/49? More? Less?

honestly, i would say he gets 8 years with a 8-9 million dollar price tag attached to it. while he hasn't been a flawless player YET he's going to be and there's no denying that. the sabres are going to want to keep their two young franchise defining superstars, eichel and dahlin, together for a long time and they're going to have to pay dahlin big bucks in order to do that.

miller may not be a top pairing defenseman but when he was playing, rather than being healthy scratched, he played the best with dahlin, who is a top pair defenseman, and dahlin looked best while he was playing with miller so thats why I have him on the top pairing.

Definitely not a bridge. 8 years, 8 mil is what I'd currently offer. But he isn't due for a contract until he plays another season and it probably sees him get north of 55 points so it could be well in the 9-10 mil range. To say that he hasn't "pulled away" from other D guys is an odd comment. Makar and Hughes both got development years that allowed them to approach their ceiling faster than a player like Dahlin who was playing at the age of 18 in the NHL. Also compare this with the fact that teams like Colorado and Vancouver are light-years better than Buffalo. It's a lot easier for one's numbers to look better on a much better team. Dahlin is the guy I'd pick time and time again over Makar and Hughes. He may not be as flashy, quick, or offensively dominate yet, but he is an absolute beast in all 3 zones and has way more room to grow than those other guys

I was more trying to make the case that we might get him cheaper because he hasnt pulled away, but A) you are right, and B) the last decent player we signed below market was reinhart on a stupid bridge, we dont get nice contracts here unfortunately.
