Looks like there's money to sign Nuge alright. And Larsson too if I forego the elite 3C.

I don't see how Nurse stays on the team beyond this year (2021-22) though, as his money is going to be needed for Bear and Jones (Bouchard's contract will slide to 2022-23). I'd like to think between Jones, Samorukov and Broberg they'll be able to replace Nurse in-house.

How in the world did you get Danault?? He isn’t leaving Montreal first and if he get to the open market make it clear that he will be one of the most attractive players out there. Is advanced stats are off the charts. His 5 on 5 number are amoung the best around the league. He basically make 50 point at 5 on 5 since he doesn’t play on the Powerplay in Montreal. Great on the Pk, on faceoff both side, on of the best at pass intercepted in defensive zone. This is just not happening!

5M for our 3C is way too much in a cap world.

There's no telling who might make it to free agency, but Danault certainly isn't the biggest name on the list by a long shot.

Danault is likely not leaving MTL and if he signs for that low MTL is certainly not letting him walk as a UFA, He puts up over 40Pts which is okay hes getting better over the years and is very consistent by years end.....but he is one of the best 2 way forwards in the league, his shutdown game is a very high point of his and thats not something you let walk.

Never said that Danault was the biggest name! I said that he will be one of the most attractive players due to what he bring to the game. Big name are rarely the most coveted players. First there only a few team that have the money to spend on them and second of all team are more likely to spend to fix need. So again Danault will be one of the most coveted players if he get to the Ufa market

That's what happens when you have an elite 1C playing 2C...

I’d be very surprised if Kassian is taken by Seattle

Why? It seems sensible to me. I guess it depends on how next season goes, but I could see it working out like this:

      Oilers go 7-3-1 and protect
F: McDavid, Draisaitl, Hall, Nugent-Hopkins, Athanasiou, Yamamoto, Puljujarvi
      D: Klefbom, Nurse, Bear
      G: Koskinen

Of course if Puljujarvi has been traded then his replacement would be protected, but I haven't done a JP trade in these "Hall" AGMs.

So it comes down to guys like Kassian, Archibald, Khaira, Larsson (UFA), Benning, Jones and Greiss. If Seattle feels like they can't sign Larsson they won't pick him, conversely if they realize Edmonton can't sign him then they might pick someone else and then try to sign Larsson on July 1st.

As I said, it depends on how the 2020-21 campaign goes, but if Kassian keeps scoring at his current rate* I wouldn't be surprised at all if they pick him.

Since January 1st 2019 (about 110 games), Kassian ranks 29th in the league for 5v5 goals with 25. Here are some prominent names that are in the range:

      26 goals: MacKinnon, B Tkachuk
25: Kassian, Barkov, W Nylander, Eichel, Skinner
      24: Point, Stone, Wheeler
23: Stamkos, Domi, Ehlers, Miller, Hoffman
22: Malkin, Oshie, M Tkachuk, Dubois, Lindholm, Hertl, Nelson, Kopitar, Killorn, E Kane, Johnson
21: Scheifele, Gaudreau, DeBrincat, Nugent-Hopkins, Larkin, Seguin, Bergeron
20: Tatàr, Kuznetsov, Schenn, Barzal, Kreider, Monahan, Eberle, Pettersson
19: Toews, Duchene, Forsberg, Buchnevich, Toffoli, Rakell, Niederreiter, Keller, Pageau
18: W Karlsson, Dadonov, Kahun, Zuccarello, A Svechnikov, E Staal, Carter
17: Crosby, Fiala, Laine, Wilson, Hayes, Benn, Athanasiou
16: Teravainen, Boeser, Giroux, Radulov, Landeskog, Couture
15: Marner, Danault, D Strome, Bailey, Parise, Zucker
14: O'Reilly, Schwartz, Mantha, Nyquist, Palat, Getzlaf, Kapanen, Kerfoot, Wood, Rantanen
      13: Horvat, Backstrom, Johansen, Pavelski
12: Johnsson, Voracek, Krejci, Roslovic, Mikael Granlund, Namestnikov

People on this site think Kassian is a worthless cap dump, but nothing could be farther from the truth. He's being paid like a good 3rd liner yet he's performing like a good 1st liner.

Which is why I've targeted him. I like him as a shutdown center.
