If I was Tampa, no. If I was MTL, very yes.

Really depends on what Sergachev wants. If he's looking for like 8 million, I'd rather just keep Romanov. If he was looking long term in the 5-6 Million range, I'd take Sergachev

I think Romanov ceilling is higher than Sergachev.

That said, Sergachev is a proven 2-way Defensemen.

Hard to say. But if I was Tampa, I'd say yes fo cap reasons. The risk is worth it. And Sergachev would step into the MTL top 4 (maybe top pairing)

EDIT: kinda what @yanp007 said... just read your comment lol

For me, Romanov is off the table, but this is exactly who TB would ask for in a Sergachev trade. ELC for 3 more years and has the potential to be a stud. If nothing else he will be a cheap reliable young Dman for them.

They would probably want a conditional pick, like Sergachev + 2nd round pick for Drouin in that deal.

Don't do this habs. Just offersheet Sergachev if you want him. If he isn't interested then why would we want him?

Apparently Brayden Point refused an OS from Montreal. That being said, I don't think Sergachev will return to Montreal through an OS (unless it's through trade or FA like David Perron or Peter Forsberg). That's the team that gave up on him after "showering him" w/ hype about being their next Andrei Markov.

Point still got over $6M in TB. If the cap stays flat, TB will only have ~$4M for Sergachev. If TB could only have given Point $4M he would have likely went the offersheet route.

Anyways, if Sergachev has no interest in signing an offersheet with MTL then I see no reason to trade for his rights.

I think the term on Sergachev's contract will determine his cost. He's got 5 years before UFA, if he gets a 3-4 year deal, it'll end up in the $5mm range. If he goes 7, you'll have to buy out some years, so it'll get close to $6-6.5mm. I think your comparables are closer to Seth Jones or Zach Werenski type contracts (5.4 and 5mm respectively). Jones had a couple of years bought out of his UFA (which is how he got an MNTC added), while Werenski will be an RFA at the end of the deal.

Why would you have to buy out years if he took a 7 year deal? He would be 28 when the deal is over.

Because he started his contract at 19 (after a 1 year slide), and after 7 years of service time he would be a UFA (so, he would have a UFA possibility at 26). If you do a 7 year contract, you'd buy out 2 years of UFA (there is some variables on timing, so it potentially be buying out 3 years of UFA).

Just offersheet the guy, if he refuses to sign the offer there's no need to trade for him and be stuck with a Puljujärvi situation in Montreal after giving your best defensive prospect away. Montreal's in a situation where he's got the bigger end of the stick against a cap crunching team with half the team on NMC/NTC, Bergevin could clearly offer something he couldn't refuse and end up with Sergachev/Chiarot/Romanov on the left side which could end up being the strengh of this team.
