That's not a great return for Ottawa. Sens would likely look for a 1st or something in that range just to trade Brown. That's just not enough to get me to bite on that Neal contract.

I know the Sens like Brown, but I dont a world where they would get it. Hes fine but the 2020 draft is so deep.

I was trying to manage something that net the 2020 EDM 1st + Poolparty without costing any of the central pieces of Ottawa's cup window

If there isn't a 1st out the for Brown, you don't trade him. I'm very firmly in the don't trade him camp anyway.

Also getting Puljujarvi and the 1st would be nice, but the deal would have to make Sense. I don't think taking on a contract like James Neal's is a smart move unless you're able to move another contract like Ryan or Zaitsev in return. I don't like the term the term on that deal.

I think a deal for Puljujarvi and the 23rd overall pick probably starts with Chris Tierney, the 33rd overall pick, and maybe a prospect like Balcers or Abramov or something.

Basically it seems like you either keep Brown or do this deal. Both are probably fine. I would leave it there,

Neal is a good veteran presence for the younger players, his cap would come off the books before we need to pay any of the players we draft this year. We also wouldnt need to worry about protecting him in the expansion draft.

I didnt want to use the 2nds

Neal is good vet, but so is Brown, and he fits with what this team is much better.

Having Neal on the books isn't going to kill their cap situation, but I don't think you want him on the team in 21/22 and 22/23 when you're hoping Ottawa is a playoff team.

Whoever we get from the 1st and Puljujarvi will do more for us than Brown when Ottawa is a playoff team
