The fact that this is a one-way concerns me. Still, given how well Carrick did in SD, perhaps he can become a mainstay 4C...

it's more likely that he's getting the one-way contract because teams do that for minor-league vets who they feel have "earned it" or whatever. Carrick's done pretty well for the Gulls over the past 4 seasons, so this is likely their way to reward him for the work he's put in.

This is a nice depth signing for Anaheim. No complaints here.

The fact that it's a 1 way deal isn't an issue. He's a good vet. He can sit in the press box or possibly be a 4th line option. More likely though, he's a great AHL performer, and you're probably comfortable paying him 700k to be an AHL player.

I don't see why that is even a problem. That contract buried does not effect the team in any way shape or form.

Fact is given the guys stats over the past 2 yeas my question is, why is he still in the AHL?
That's the part that I concerning. He's produced well at that level. More than well enough to deserve an extended look.
You are talking about a guy in 107 games put in 55 goals. That is outstanding production at the AHL level.
Yet he's only been given a 15 game opportunity over 2 years. That's not right to me. It's not like ANA couldn't use some help.
